To me, the essense of Octopunch wasn't so much he had a diving helmet (though that was part of it), it ws that you could only slightly glimpse the head under there! It is the element of mystery!
Of course then I learnt that the toy had a really blatant head, oh well!
I'm putting my money on a straight redeco of the existing head as his robot mode head, which wouldn't be the end of the world.

The list that got circulated last week said Octopunch would have a new head, which makes sense as at least one of the add ons always has a new head and Spinister using the Vortex head doesn't need it, Kick off is fine with Jazz or the new head on Treadshot nor would Hound as SG Swindle, well it could help but its close enough that if only one figure gets the head Octopunch will be it.

Yes - the first time I see the Octopunch toy (in Woolworth's in 1989!) at first glance, Octopunch just looked like a human deep sea diver - then you notice the tentacles and then peer into his helmet and see the monster face. Bludgeon was similar in this respect too.

Need to see a better picture of Metalhawk - if the head looks good, I'll be 50/50 on this set. Love Treadshot and Tracks is nice. Will be angling to at least pick up Treadshot and Metalhawk this year and will probably cave if I can get Tracks at a good price. These are all good enough to overcome my SG apathy.
I like Octopunch from Seaspray in principle (didn't like it as Seaspray, to be honest), but need better pics to judge.

Will we have Stranglehold next? seeing we already have the other 2 used in either the character repaints in this set as someone else [Bludegon] or character repainted as them [Octopunch] - or could they do another Autobot first wave Pretender.

There were some robot mode Octopunch pics on a since-removed eBay auction earlier. I found them fairly underwhelming. Apparently he is Shattered Glass.

I really am underwhelmed with Shattered Glass. Always have been, always will be. It just seems... lazy.

It's not like there's been a regular flavour Octopunch in the last 20-odd years! I think the deco looked nice, but it just wasn't Octopunch. -Ralph

Looking at the robot pictures, it reminds me more of Quickswitch.

Oh, hrm that robot mode doesnt look anything like Octopunch, unless I'm missing something.
Maybe that isn't the final version?

It has been mentioned that previous exclusives that came with new heads originally showed up as stolen samples with the original head still in place. So a diving bell head is still possible. I really hope it does this seems like one of the more pointless ones without it.
Also the colours in both sets of photos look quite off.

The head kills that for me, just as it did as Seaspray. Shame, really, beacause it seems like quite a nice robot mode otherwise, now I see it properly.

I'm not sure an appropriately sized diving helmet could be accommodated by the transformation - what would be cool would be a monster head with helmet accessory (this year's BotCon theme - headwear accessories!).

Could Stranglehold be a Breacher type toy for Octopunch? Would a Cybertron toy fit on the back? repaint of Backstop

If they went the 'outer shell route', Backstop is one of the few toys that would work with a flesh tone recolor. Of course, it would make sense to go with his inner robot colours. Then again, if they do ever attempt a Stranglehold, then it needs to be Voyager size to go with Bludgeon & Octopunch. Was excited about Octopunch btw, but not so much now I've seen him in robot mode.

Why not do Breacher in the inner robot colours of Octopunch? That makes more sense to me than Stranglehold...

The tentacle motif on the chest/roof is a nice touch. That's about it. Doesn't look like the original character's robot or shell. I guess it's supposed to be a mirror universe colour scheme, but it doesn't look like the reverse of his original colours or any variation thereof. Like Nigel, the first character I thought of when I was it was Quickswitch.
Hmm. They can't all be winners I suppose.

Oh right. Hmm. Yes Same here I'm afraid. I appreciate that it's in the diaclone colours, but as its a movie-ish mold in style it doesn't really evoke that.

It's not even got the colours right, theres barely any grey on it. Sadly another disappointment or at least requiring some painting.

Headwear really is the theme, isn't it? Ratchet's got a headband, Octopunch should have a diver's helmet and Ultra Magnus could have another head to fit over the standard one.
I like the Diaclone homages in Tracks and Ultra Magnus, but the Shattered Glass reverse insignia really spoil them for me.

Hmmm. Not a colour scheme that works particularly well on that mold. Doesn't really remind me much of Powered Convoy either - the mold doesn't really feel very much like PC to begin with so just giving it two of the colours doesn't really evoke much for me.

I hope it looks better in the plastic, because it looks awful in that picture.
Ultra Magnus, not chocolate porridge.

Head close up is certainly interesting. The toy absolutely needs more grey, but crystal skull look might save it.

I saw the head close-up on Facebook (not on their website, that would be too silly) and that is one ugly dude. For it to work as a Diaclone homage it really needed a more 80's style head design.
