SG had proved such a big hit in 2008 they knew any SG offered as an add on would sell. So if they couldnt fill out a set with the toys they wanted it was a safe bet. Yes, but the first SG set was a nice cohesive ones. Then they started going mad, repurposing exciting characters to be SG and shovelling it in people's faces with increasingly convoluted fanfic and dumb ideas. And then we ended up with the long awaited Action Master Thundercracker with a *&(^ red Decepticon logo slapped on him!! (Plenty of people have said to me "god, why do you care" but honestly, it's the needlessness of it that annoys me. Far more people wanted AM Thundercracker than cared about an SG one, you don't need to make him SG to 'excuse' him)

I can almost forgive the red symbol as it plends in with the plastic and so just looks like an outline of the symbol. I still remain pissed that the wings were made purple, because that showed that all they did was go online and look at fanart rather than studying the actual toy.
Having said that, Botcon was a niche market and within that market SG was disturbingly popular, even with otherwise sensible people. So treating AMTC as SG TC made sense as it appealed to two groups, but they then spoiled it by stating it was SG rather than 2 sets of bios and silver decepticon symbol or something similarly neutral.

Kapow have some clearer shots of these dudes. I'd have made an attempt to get the Armada Hotshot I think.

While Im quite happy to believe this is more or less what the initial/FP first choice set might have been I do find it suspicous timing that this would have been the first set to include not one but two Leader class toys.
Even if FP have been pitching leader class figures in the past (despite claiming they werent viable options) that would mean Hasbro has been vetoing them, so if Pete wants to claim this is the set we'd have gotten it seems like hes trolling putting them in.
Also they are the worst two of the customs so if they are the standard of the effort that FP put in to leaders it would be no wonder if Hasbro had kept saying no to them.

I do wish we'd gotten those Animated Arcee troopbuilders.

Much better than those Autotroopers.

It does more or less track, though. The 2011 set is one of the ones Pete has been more outspoken about, and has said several times that Brian was the one who wouldn't let go of the stunticons. He wanted to do Animated. Brian kept nixing anything that wasn't Stunticons.
And for a Classics set, there really weren't many smaller options for Motormaster. Most Optimus/Truck toys were either deluxe, leader, animated, or movie. I can only think of Classics Voyager optimus, which had been done in black several times by that point.
I honestly don't see them trying to figure out how to make this work here as contradicting them at all saying leader class molds weren't viable. It may have been the tipping point to pushing it into Animated.

"Please note these are just concepts. They were never submitted for approval nor were the final line-ups determined" being the main point here. So previous claims these were what would have been the Botcon 2017 toys was of course the bollocks I had suspected. Just a way to promote a show.

I still find the vehicon generals to be sketchy as hell (tankor is pointless, thrust is not good, and there's no flippin way they'd pull off a major remold to make jetstorm work), but omg that diagnostic drone is absolute genius!

I've been doing that with Crashbash's dragon fro a while now. Think I saw it on the wiki somewhere.

Self-serving bollocks. A shame, really, since I like most of those ideas. But then I like a lot of other digibashes that other people just do randomly. So... Yeah.
On the plus side, though, at least Reprolabels are running with the Action Master Prime idea. Which is exactly what I'll be doing with mine, in anticipation of maybe one day having a spare from that box set...

Action Master Prime reprolabels, you say?

The TR Prime would make a really good Armoured Convoy (and I'd probably name it that - no dafter than names like "Leo Prime" or "Lioconvoy" really. :-) )

I'm facing a dilemma of tearing off the reprolabels from the one I have, or just flat out buying a second one. Because I actually like the set that exists, but I NEED THIS ACTIONMASTER PRIME THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN WHAT HASBRO DID IN THE SECOND PLACE.

I couldn't figure out what I meant by "second place," then it dawned on me. I meant actionmaster Prime should have been in the velocitron box set, while Laser Prime should have been the retail release.

So... I guess Pete's running theme from here on out is gonna be "Hey, we used to do botcon toys, pay attention to us!"

What FP would have done for Botcon 2016 had they not been given the CW moulds. Essentially loads of Beast Wars figures from T30 and Transformers Prime moulds.

Last year stank of sour grapes. Now it's just getting sad.
Especially since they already showed all this off, in the more logically reasonable "Since there's no point hiding anymore, here's a bunch of our rejected or unused concepts" panel.
