Rhino - G2 Primes recent reuse shows the mould is available if they can use it without the trailer. If the trailer fits any other box-cab then you could make an Outlaw with it!

ScalpedI don't have a synopses for this. It's just playing around with forgotten concepts. Shortround is a toy collector. He gets into it with Swindle, who's trying to scalp botcon toys. And is an excuse to make botcon legends. Oh my god that's genius. I have a feeling in real life, the cost-per-legends is too high which is why we don't see them as much in Botcon as you get more of a bang for your buck with the slightly more expensive other molds, but still, man... Yeah. I have no delusions that it's a viable set.

Though apparently it's an updated version of an old convention figure that now looks even more suspiciously like Miles Mayhem but isn't honest, even though it totally is.

Found a list on my phone for potential Beast Wars Animated repaints.

"Welcome to Dinobot Island"
Basic theme is straight up Jurassic Park homage. BW dinosaurs decoed like JP dinosaurs, and vehicle TFs decoed like iconic JP vehicles. Story is whatever stupid thing it needs to be to justify this.
•T. Rex- BW Megatron in JP colors •Raptor- U. Dinobot decoed as JW Blue •Helicopter- Cyb Evac decoed as the Ingen chopper from the JP opening •Jeep- U. Hound as the gas powered jeep from JP •Trike- Guildart decoed as the trike from JP
It gets a bit more limited from here, but there's enough to make some decent souvenirs. The Lost World Stego and a few vehicles.

BW Rattrap in brown, with red robot parts
Snapper in green x4 -one with blue robot parts -one with red robot parts -one with purple robot parts -one with orange robot parts
Just a humble beast era Master of Circuitsu, and his four young pupils.
And TM2 Dinobot done as a particularly dicey villain.
Instead of new heads, they get new weapons.

So the Machine Wars set was a monumental failier, because this is the ONE LINE that FP could have put out complete in one botcon. I think it fell so flat because 1. Poor mold choices And 2. Collectors knew that this would NEVER be completed. That can kill enthusiasm in collectors. If the line had been complete, I think it would have been much more successful.
Sadly, there were molds available at that time that would have made nearly perfect updates. So, there were 12 releases in the MW line. That creates a 5 piece box set, three 2 piece souvenirs, and the attendee bonus. Save for Gen Hoist because towtruck, every mold I used was available to FP for their set.
Machine Wars botcon set Box Set: Optimus- Tfp Magnus Megatron- Cl. Jetfire w/new head Mirage- Cl. Mirage Thundercracker- E. Starscream w/new head Hoist- Gen Hoist
Attendee: Skywarp- E. Starscream, reuse new head
Souvenir Set 1: Starscream- U. Silverbolt w/new head Prowl- Cl. Mirage
Souvenir Set 2: Soundwave- CD Red Alert Hubcap- Gen. Hoist
Souvenir Set 3: Megaplex- Cl. Jetfire, reuse new head Sandstorm- HftD Tomahawk

So I'm playing with a new prebeast set. Basic story is this: Convicted Criminal Scourge is on the loose and experamenting on innocent maximals and predacons, infecting them with a strain of the Hate Plague that's of his own design (which he's secretly working on for Megatron).
It's up to the Maximal Command Security Force (Maxcops) to find and stop him.
There are two who need to be done: Scourge- Gen Whirl 9K- CW Streetwise
And I'm leaning towards the big toy/monster of the set as •Barbearian- E. Landmine. The idea is that Scourge infects him with the plague to be the main distraction/problem for the maxcops to overcome. When he's finally subdued, he can't be cured, and has to live with this toxin forever (tying into his toy bio)
Everything else, I'm much more indecisive about. •Plague Rats- Gen Rattrap in new deco as troopbuilder, sent out to spred the hate plague. Reasonably sure I'd include this.
Potentials: •Volfang- CW Prowl •Blackarachnia- Gen Chromia (potential plague victim) •Sonar- BH Arcee •Waspinator- HftD Tomahawk •Megatron- Gen Sandstorm TM colors •Dinobot- Gen Springer •Terrorsaur- Gen Arm Starscream w/Jhiaxus wings •Cybershark- Gen Skybyte •Snapper- CW Rook •Retrax- BH Bulkhead
Potential Maxcops: •Wolfang- CW Prowl or Dead End •Switchblade- cd hotshot •Stiletto- gen Windblade •Polar Claw- gen Roadbuster •B'boom- CD Scattorshot
Any suggestions, or comments?

Bit of a tangent here but chatting to Nick the other day made me think if there is a demand for Botcon sets anymore. There's at least 4 CW boxed sets coming out at about a third or quarter price of a Botcon set that pretty much gives folk that 'experience in a box' feeling (also easier to get). Even the UW sets which have a higher price tag do much the same thing. Then you have the madness of UW Grand Galvatron (crazy collection of assorted characters from different eras). For me it embodies a Botcon set in all but name but for around $150-200 rather than $400. So my question is...are Botcon sets relevant or desireable anymore when the same sort of thing can be had elsewhere at a significantly lower price and easier availability? Or is the Botcon boxset more part of the fun of that convention and a souvenir of a good time?

I don't think I've ever even seen a set that I would want the entirety of. I think the model should be changed up... maybe a 'build a set' option from pre-existing choices. Like, this year, only interested in Tarantulas from the box. But if there were four other guys from outside the set that I wanted, option them together.

Botcon toys used to be exciting because of a) exclusivity and b) fan pandering decos.
Nowadays we have such a glut of merchandise (not like the days where a years worth of product were around a dozen or so figures) that added figures isn't that exciting. And thanks to Takara, everyone and their son seems to be releasing an exclusive figure.
Hasbro and Takara are also doing all the fan pandering decos themselves, leaving Botcon a bit in the dust.
And finally of course, TOO MUCH PRODUCT OH GOD. They used to be good because they felt limited and special, it's hard to make like, enough toys to fill out a subline feel limited and special, as opposed to the 1-2 we used to get.

I think this year is a mistake. There are going to be so many cw sets available that I cant see how dealers are going to make any real profit on a set that costs 2 or 3 times that of other to start with.
ive also heard regular attendees who arent going partly because the set does nothing for them. Its too early to say it will be a failure, but i see a lot being sold to recoup conven5ion costs which will keep resale prices low. Rightly or wrongly that's always been a measure of success.
it also just seems weirdly bland set. The TFSS mayhem and impactor set feels a lot more like a botcon set should be.
More generally, I think they just priced themselves out of the market. 10 years ago it cost $250 to go. A decade of recession and low income later and the exact same event costs $400+.

Ive said that for an age. Ditch two or three of the box set toys, but keep the same paint app and remould budget. now all 2,3 or 4 figures all get new heads or parts and all the paint apps they would ever need. The rough price breakdown seems to be about $250 for toys $150 for the convention. So if they were willing to lose the profit form those 2 or 3 figures they could probably get the price back down to $300 and have real premium quality toys.

And of course, have fiction that sells the toys! There's a lot you can do with a small space.
Instead they shovel out tons and tons of nonsensical fanfic level stuff.
Really, they should be putting out some sort of fiction for free on their site before the con, available to all (not just members) to help hype up the figures.

I wouldn't have minded the Stunticon set. That was nice and cohesive.
I generally agree with Ralph's point; the UW sets, G2 repaints and now (apparently) Liokaiser do make the BotCon boxes sort of redundant (the UW boxes themselves are quite nice as well, with the magnetic front flap - do we know if the G2 sets are like this?).
The only niche I can see FunPub filling now would be the really obscure / non-mainstream stuff, like the TFSS Carzap / Blackrock set, Serpent O.R., or the BotCon Prime / Hound pack (that said, a couple of years ago we even got RTS Prime in unreleased Hero Prime colours!).
And yes, the Club fiction needed radical improvement. It's never been great, but how could they imagine it would compete in the era of IDW Phase 2? The quality of the magazines generally, in content and production wasn't good either. The annual Japanese bookazines shame them, and I can't even read those!
