Never saw any of the toys back in the day.
Watched one episode of the cartoon, it was not good.

Oh I'm sure you've seen the toys. The dinosaurs were, and still are (which is a tragedy because their science is soooo out of date) some of THE most accurate dinosaur toys ever produced. The molds have been used consistantly since, and Rex in Toy Story is the Dinorider T. Rex. Tyrannosaur, Kentrosaur, Styracosaur, Monoclonius (even though the clade is dubious at best), triceratops, and diplodocus are some of the most widely available toys out there of all time. Produced by museum toylines, even.

Oh I have seen them now, but when they were originally out they seemed to bypass my area.
The only reason I know they existed back then was adverts in various comics for the Star Comics series.

Mattel already use the Dino Riders trademark. They produce dinsosaur themed Hot Wheels cars under the Dino Riders name. Smyths sell them. This may be Mattel renewing that trademark. Keeping in going in case they want to do other things with it.

There was a report a few weeks ago, posted on the Kapow FB page I'm sure, that said they were looking to update the series with possibly a new cartoon or film.
The toys were brilliant. I've still got a few of the smaller ones and the larger ones were electronic and could walk on their own.
I used to have the cartoon on VHS. Some of the dialogue is terrible but it has dinosaurs in it so I'm happy. At the end of the episodes they used to have adverts for the Dino Riders toys and the Nigel Mansell Scalextric sets.

There was news a while back about a Dino Riders movie in development. Might also tie in with that. screenrant.com/dino-riders-movie-mattel/IIRC Mattel also teased fans at SDCC with a screen featuring logos for other properties such as Street Sharks, Food Fighters and I'm pretty sure Dino Riders too. The person asked the audience if anyone wanted these brands back and if so they'd like hear about it. I think this at the panel where they announced the Thundercats acquisition.

That seems a bit odd. It's there really a market for Dino Riders statues? Surely toys would do better.

It seems like they're interested in following lock step with the original, and being at least reasonably scientifically accurate.
But like... Yeah. I would pay $200 for a scientifically accurate tyrannosaur toy with reasonable articulation that's scaled to a line of well sculpted joe sized figures that have the aesthetic of that design up there.

Scientific accuracy makes me guffaw so hard. The dinosaurs had laser guns! That never happened in real life.

When transformers did dinosaurs that were straight out of a 50s schoolbook, Dino-Riders made toys that are still used as museum pieces. The kentrosaur is still one of the most accurate dinosaur toys ever made.

The dinosaurs themselves are accurate, what they're harnessed with is the fantasy. It isn't the dinosaurs making the laser guns, it's the people riding them.

Dinosaurs were actual animals. That actually existed.
If you put a polar bear in armor, doesn't make polar bears not be a thing. At the same time you can't just put a golden retriever in armor, call it a polar bear, and be done with it. Because everyone knows what a polar bear is.
Dinotopia is a fantasy book series that has talking dinosaurs living with people, in the 1800s. Sometimes they wear armor. Sometimes there are semi-intellegent robot dinosaurs. The fact that James Gurney constantly works to update the animals to the latest knowledge base only helps make it real.
Making the dinosaurs look like actual dinosaurs does not negate the sci-fi elements. It actually enhances it. The original dino-rider toys are extremely dated now, but they were largely on point back then.

In the Sunbow cartoon, the Dinobots were built in the 1980s so it makes sense for them to reflect 1980s perceptions of what dinosaurs were like.
In the Marvel comic, the Dinobots were based on Savage Land dinosaurs as they were four million years ago - not mainstream Earth dinosaurs as they were 65+ million years ago.
So in neither of the main classic TF continuities would one expect the Dinobots to reflect 21st Century knowledge of ancient dinosaurs.

I think even in the 1980s we knew Dinosaurs didn't look like that.
What I am shocked by is the lack of Dino Riders elements in the Grand Moff Universe.

I think even in the 1980s we knew Dinosaurs didn't look like that. What I am shocked by is the lack of Dino Riders elements in the Grand Moff Universe. We knew in the seventies that dinosaurs didn't look like the Dinobots. In fact, I've made arguments that the diaclone toy that became Grimlock reflects this, as the designer seems to understand tyrannosaurs. We knew by at least the late seventies they didn't drag their tails. We knew by the late eighties that birds are dinosaurs. Pop culture though was still stuck in the sixties. The Sunbow Dinobots didn't reflect the actual knowledge of dinosaurs in the early eighties, they reflected pop culture's zero research knowledge. Playskool's(?) Definitely Dinosaurs and Dino-Riders did a really reasonable job of leaning into what we actually knew about dinosaurs at the time. Like... They didn't get everything right, changed some things for functionality (using rex's tail as a tripod), but they were very much the most scientifically advanced toys at their time. And sadly the prevailing attitude of "they're not real, it doesn't" means they still are some of the most accurate toys. Dated as they are. You can still find the basic dinosaur molds in use today, for museum giftshops. Only Jurassic Park, and Beasts of the Mesozoic as major toylines have more advanced/current dinosaurs. As for the dinobots in sunbow and marvel, they were a product of their time. Modernized Accurate Dino-Riders, which is a completely seperate toyline does not make sunbow/marvel dinobots stop existing. Nor would updated dinobot toys.

They are awesome. They deserve a revival.
Don't wanna play it but I'd love to see a video game that looks like that above statue/render.

I'd offer to be a go between, but currently that'd only be feasible if you guys order several, and/or don't want the packaging. Because I don't think I can get a better deal than them.
