An exciting update on Phoenix The natives are restless. The sound of drums echoes across the island, deep in the jungle, something stirs... Oh no, run for your lives, it's another v6 update! Badges Let's talk badges. We are aware that some of you like the badge system, but unfortunately, due to the overall lack of interest, we have opted to remove badges as a full featured system. The good news here is that if you've ever purchased a badge for yourself or had a badge gifted to you, you will keep that badge, and it will still be displayed in your user profile. However, going forward the badge store will be shut down, and badge functionality (gifting, badge actions, etc.) will not be integrated into v6. If you like the idea of badges, we highly recommend that you check out Todge 's Awards System plugin, which offers a similar feature set to badges. To reiterate, badges that you own will display in your user profile in v6. Badges will be inert in v6 (e.g., no gifting, no throwing, etc.). V5 will retain all the badge functionality that it currently has (gifting, throwing, etc.). The badge store will be shut down in the future. I can't give you a solid date, but we will give you some warning in advance. Calendar The calendar is one of the least-used features on our platform. You want to know how unpopular it is? In the last month, visits to the calendar accounted for around 0.02% of all traffic across all forums. There are half a dozen pages in the admin area that get more traffic than the calendar. Yet, despite this tiny amount of traffic, the calendar results in a large amount of complexity, from both a design and implementation standpoint. As a result, we've made a decision to remove the calendar as an integrated part of our forum platform. But don't despair, since we know there are a good number of forums out there that use and like the calendar, we're not leaving you high and dry. We're developing a plugin that will allow you to integrate Google Calendar directly into your forum. Our aim is to replicate the functionality you're used to from our calendar, but with the added benefit of everything that Google Calendar has to offer you (recurring events, anyone?). An even greater benefit is that since we're shifting the heavy lifting of the calendar over to Google, we can free up those resources to work on creating the best core forum experience possible. Public v6 Feature Countdown Lastly, and probably most interesting to most of you, is the announcement that as of today we're releasing a public feature countdown for v6. We've set up this Trello board exclusively so that you can all see the progress that we're making on getting v6 ready to launch. Here's a link to the countdown: ProBoards v6 Public Feature Countdown Trello BoardAnd here are a few notes about this board: No, there are no solid dates yet for alpha, beta, or launch, so please don't ask As far as I'm aware, this list currently represents our best guess of all work to be done before launch, except... Alpha and beta testing are not listed, but will still be happening Updates and rework based on user feedback are anticipated, but not listed No, you can't edit it to add or remove features Items being on this list is not a guarantee of inclusion in the final v6, nor is exclusion from this list a guarantee of absence from the final v6 We reserve the right to add to, remove from, and reorder this list at will The first three phases are by far the most work, since they lay groundwork for every other phase Some initial work has been done on some areas from the later phases We will be updating this board weekly as we complete tasks That's it for this edition of updates for v6. Stick around for next time when we'll unveil the first publicly available part of v6!

And what's a 'Proboard'?

No idea.
Possibly, but what kind of merit badges would we encourage?
A scary prospect.

Necrobumping badge?
True Friending badge?
Completing a Line of toys badge?
Making someone laugh a drink up the back of their nose badge?
Or maybe it's more like Curie Marks....

Do these badges appear under the avatar (in which case they are exciting) or in the user profile (in which case no-one cares)
I feel this is the important question
