You realise that Terribull is because they couldn't get the trademark for Horri-Bull. Also a pun.

Inspired by Doc not realizing so many names are actually puns, what are your favorites? (My explinations are probably pretty bad)
•Horri-Bull: Horrible+Bull, sounds horrible. •Terri-bull: Terrible... Saaaaame pun •Spinister: Sinister, combined with Spin, because he's a chopper, and the two makes the sounds. •Cy-Kill: he's a psychopathic killer cycle. The pun works on a few levels. •Cop-Tur- works on a few levels. He's a cop copter. •Cheetor: Cheetah/cheater •Double Header: A double header is a baseball term (two games back to back), used on a bot with two heads, hilarity ensues. (Not a pun in the classic sense, but I feel the joke deserves mentioning) •Spoons: Because he's a FORKlift! Eh? Eh?!? (Also not a classic pun, but a good joke) •Ikard- it's combining the japanese word for squid, with Picard... Because he's a squid who's a starship captain! •Jeeper-Creeper: also a pun on the phrase Jeepers creepers, because he's an evil jeep dude
There are quite a few more, but I can't access TFU.info anymore, and that's all I can remember at the moment

The trouble with Spinister is it also reminds me of the word 'spinster'. A bit like poor Vortex who thought he was naming himself after a powerful cyclone-type thing but just reminds humans of toilet cleaners.
I like Kickback - triple meaning, he's a chilled-out kinda guy who likes to kick back and relax, he's corrupt and takes kickbacks from his underhand dealings, and he's got a powerful kick with his back legs. (Apart from that he's cool in that he wields a gangster-type tommy gun.)
Other puns/wordplay:
Hun-Grrr - hunger, grrr Fangry - fang, angry Tentakil - tentacle, kill Catilla - cat, Attila the Hun Chainclaw - chainsaw, claw Mudslinger - off-road vehicle, one who likes to stir up trouble

But that's not their names? -Ralph You know how most BW names have the animal in it? Cheetah/Cheetor, Rhino/Rhinox, and so on? The same is with TM2 Prowl. He's an owl. prOWL. Definite pun. As for the lion, most cats prowl around. Personally, I feel that's not as much a pun or joke, as it is an incredibly appropriate and well used name.

Oh yeah. Optimus "Primal". I mean, yeah, I knew it was a pun at the time. But after 20 years I've just gotten used to it...

I had a similar moment the other day. I have never thought of Kup having a cab. I thought he was just a Cybertronian style vehicle, but seeing the Titanmaster sat there behind a windscreen I realised he's supposed to be some kind of truck. Hence his previous CHUG alt mode I suppose. But that original alt mode doesn't look like a sit in truck to me...

I only got the gag about Horri-Bull last year!
With pun TF names if I only know them from print rather than audio I am astonishingly slow at getting the gag.

Not surprising this one loses something in the american to british translation as pick-ups aren't a big thing for you, but here you can't strp into the street without getting mowed doen by at least twenty of them.

Grotusque was the one pun that evaded me for years. I probably always spelt it wrong (or correct) too before I realised. I also thought Spinister was called Spinster for ages too.

Each day brings fresh delights on the Hub... :-)
This is one that eluded me for longer than the others, though. Mostly because I'd not encountered anyone using the word "grotesque", and thus thought the name was pronounced "grot-tus-kew".
Yes I know.

He's Kup, because he's a picK-UP truck. Good lord. I never knew. I NEVER KNEW! B-b-b-b-ut - if you put anything in the back of that alt-mode it'd just fall out as soon as you moved. I really thought he was something like a tron light cycle, something you lay on the back of and held onto. There's a control panel on the back of the cab that looks like a dashboard.
