I agree with Martin here. I cannot think of a Beast Wars name that didn't come from another character that was not cringey. Apart from Rattrap. Airazor, Terrorsaur, Blackarachnia, Tigerhawk, Quickstrike, Depthcharge, Seaclamp, Cicadacon, Tripredacus, B'Boom, Polarclaw, Torca, Clawjaw, Ramulus, Jawbreaker, Skyshadow, Terragator, Noctorro, Razorbeast, Buzzclaw, Manterror, Fractyl, Packrat, Nightglider... None of those names are that good in my opinion. Manterror? Tigerhawk? Cicadacon? Blackarachnia? Some of them are quite lazy. But you also bring to my attention some more decent ones, like Sea Clamp & B'Boom so they aren't all bad. Of course the one universe that is even worse in it's naming than BW is the Live Action Movies - Brains, Dino, Que, Igor...

Blackarachnia's no better or worse than any other nonsense name like Megatron or Starscream.

Hmm I don't know. The thing that bothers me with most Beast Wars names is that they are just pretty much what they turn into - a Black Widow that is also an arachnid. Comparing Starscream's name to her, he would be called something like Greyflyer. I liked that most of the old names are actions or terms rather than going down the Marvel or He-Man route. Heh, we could have just had the Adventures of Truck Man and Volkswagon Boy!
But I agree that a lot of the original names are just as bad - we are just used to them because we were younger back then and now they are engraved in our memory: Hook, Hound (but at least he isn't an actual hound), Laserbeak, Kup, Hot Rod, Blurr. Unicron is an incredibly strange name (unless I'm missing something). Brawn is just as rubbish a name as Brains.

No, Matt, no! Brawn is a brilliant name. That and other Transformers names taught me the meanings of those words as a nipper.

It did teach me a lot of words and meanings too. Before I knew what Brawn's name meant I thought it was something to do with Branflakes. Like Vortex made me think of the toilet cleaner - then I discovered it had a meaning!

It's not uncommon to call big muscular people an ox. If they were human, you'd definitely be calling him an ox of a man. This is a new thing to me! It may just not be a saying in Scotlandland. I must confess that this is new to me also. I'd always assumed they put the "x" on the end to make it sound cool. After all, it was the nineties...

Okay, tell a lie, guess I had heard that. Just not often enough for it to flag up in my mind when seeing Rhinox's name... No, I don't think it registered in connection with Rhinox's name. Mainly cos he's a Rhino, not an Ox. It might be reading too much into the suffix..... ..... althogh I do now want a Rhino/Ox Rhinox Fuzor.

Some TF names with double meanings that may have passed folk by:
'Rollbar' means a metal bar running up the sides and across the top of a vehicle, especially one used in motor sport, strengthening its frame and protecting the occupants if the vehicle overturns. But the Throttlebot Rollbar also sells hot and cold savouries - anything in a bun, actually - out of the back of his van mode.
'Tailgate' means to drive too closely behind another vehicle. According to Tailgate's TFU entry, "a powerful ferrocobalt magnet under his hood allows him to be pulled by and within a few feet of any vehicle he chooses to follow, reducing his own fuel expenditure to nearly zero. His range has virtually no limit when he travels like this." What is less well known among humans is the media scandal that erupted on Cybertron over the revelations about his collection of rare alien animal tails, a scandal now referred to simply as 'Tailgate'.
'Ransack' means to go through a place stealing things and causing damage. But there was also that time this Insecticon wasn't looking where he was going and ran into a sack.

People think Krok got his name ('Croc') because his Action Master partner is Gatoraider the robot alligator. But his name pre-dates his partnership with Gatoraider and actually refers to his love for Korean rock music.
Slugslinger gives medical treatment to shell-less molluscs with broken arms. Slugfest then holds a party to cheer them up.
