No, they're not better quality plastic, nor is the engineering better. They're fragile as frak, and Tracks has some of the worst engineering ever. His head is required to just float over an empty void, while his shoulders occupy negative space with his wings and weird backpack that completely fails at replicating anything from the original toy, or cartoon. His legs are a convoluted mess that make no logical sense in their engineering, except to add pointless steps.
At $80-$200 a pop, I expect much, much better.
Much as I'm looking forward to Primal, I am equally terrified. Fortunately he looks to be governed by a better design team.
I prefer the Alternators. They were more Masterpiece-like than the post MP10 MPs.

Nah thats great. If only it had some more detail going on it would be perfect.
It doesnt need to be that toon accurate TakaraTomy. Even Actionmaster Inferno had more details than this guy.
Having said that once it has colour it might not be so obvious.

I think if he's coloured nicely he could look rather nice!!

That's much better than I was expecting I have to say. Looks a little wide, and the legs have no detail at all, but I'm not disappointed. I think he may look quite plain when coloured and I doubt the finish will be quite up to the MMC version, but perhaps Backdraft can come off the pre-order list for now...
Not bad Takara. My MP optimism levels have risen slightly.

I can get behind these colours on a fire engine. Gimme dat Inferno.

Absolutely. What I mean is that I'm getting used to some of the intricate details on the grey prototypes disappearing under flat colouring when the final toys come out. Inferno is going to be a whole lot of red and not a lot else, which I think might make a figure as plain as this suffer. Those legs aren't going to look that good without any detailing on them.

I'm hoping for some black or maybe silver line work

Hmmm. From the side the legs arent nearly as plain, the wheels and hose add a lot. Its just that head on view that looks unfinished. Really really unfinished.
Still, not as bad as Hot Rods unfisnished chest.

I may have just cried a little.
Masterpiece Inferno. It's actually hitting me now. He's real. He looks good. I never thought... wow.

Oh no No NO! I don't like at all. Oh no. Just too plain. IT'S SHOCKWAVE ALL OVER AGAIN!!! The 3P looks much better. This is terrible.... It's a disaster.... Is this where the MP line is going...? IS IT?!?!?!!!!

I seem to recall a lot of complaining about Ironhide when we saw his resin prototype, and yet he turned out to be one of the best MP's they have done. I shall keep the faith.

In color, it doesn't look as dumpy, but it looks even blander, and less detailed.

A bit too cartoon accurate for me. I just want them to look like the cartoons/comics but with real life detailing. They were drawn with less detail and 'kibble' just because it was easy and cheaper to animate that way. I don't really want this carried over to toys that are called Masterpieces. Still - can't wait for my super-detailed cartoon accurate Combaticons and Bruticus! Look how cool is Swindle going to be!

I posted my fears about what this will look like when coloured earlier in the thread. It makes the chest look even more flat too, and I do prefer a more rounded chest.
I don't think the end result can be that plain. Shockwave was bland, but he is just straight purple. Inferno has more bells and whistles. Literally.
If not then sod it, MMC all the way.

There's no contest for me. Given the choice between third party or official HasTak, I cannot condone myself going any other route than official. And INFERNO! Seriously, you guys just don't realise how much this means to me.
Of course, if the now rumoured MP Mirage happens as well I may just die.

Thankfully they have also been real world vehicle accurate so far (annoyingly in Bumblebees case) so as a fire engine there should be lots of chrome and paint app detailing on it..... just maybe not on the incredibly plain legs that aren't visible in vehicle mode... ah, yes.
