This one's nice. It'd be nice if there was some extra detail that could be added to the legs for the toy mode, but this looks a pretty good figure to me. I keep looking at the MMC version, but I think despite being simplified, this one wins.

I keep looking at the MMC version, but I think despite being simplified, this one wins. I can cope with the lack of detailing, I'd prefer not to, but it doesn't bother me too much, but.. With Inferno they have done it at the cost of stripping almost all detail from the vehicle mode. Look at the rear end photo, the MP cars as supposed to be realistic scale models. Even the cheapest retail toys usually have some moulding or paint to suggest lights, bumper exhaust or whatever. It needs the chrome bumper and hydraulics and the fire department stickers and just some colour. The saving grace is that Im sure some stickers will come along quickly to fix it it, but they really really shouldnt have to. The basic mould looks great, but if Takara keep pushing further in to cartoon reproduction I'm close to losing interest in the line which is a real shame.

I concur. It's a far cry from the glory days of original MP Starscream including his wacky dark green colour scheme.

Bland doesn't cut.... MP Inferno's like eating brown bread without spread in the desert after a long walk without a drink....

But still full of fibre..?
But yeah. I've gone from "mayyyyyybe" to "nope". Disappointing. Especially after MP Primal.

I'm preorder paid on this. I shall report fully. Should be out next week.
I was going MMC but there's something about the chunkier robot on the Takara one that drew me in. Perhaps I'm being cartoonised by all the Sunbow Sunday writing. Tis plain looking though.
Could always flip this and go MMC because that one is very toy accurate, and half the price now. I'm confused at the moment as to what my MP collection is supposed to be so investigations are ongoing.

Well, out of the box the fire truck mode is as plain as the photos make it look. Getting a sinking feeling here. I'm not sure I've got the stomach to transform it at the moment. I fear disappointment looms like it did with Shockwave.

You don't think he's SNAPPED do you, Doc'?
MP Inferno is so uninteresting he's lost his mind and collasped within a boredom Event Horizon...!

Actually, not all hope may be lost. The transformation has some really neat bits to it that raise a smile - particularly the way the ladder folds up totally into the back of the body. It isn't visible in robot mode at all, and while that isn't toy accurate it's very clever. There's also a clever shuffle that moves the hoses and support bar down his leg to fill a hole - everything seals up nicely, no hollows like Tracks.
Despite the lack of metal in the figure there's a good weight to it - much more so than Shockwave, and I have to say the robot mode doesn't disappoint. There isn't a lot of detail on the legs, but the proportions are really nice. It is a cartoon inspired figure, there's no escaping that, but stood next to the MP cars he doesn't look out of place. I'm surprised. I'm actually smiling. I thought this was going to be a horror show, but unless you're absolutely unswervingly set on toy accuracy then this is pretty neat. MMC's is on the nose toy accurate, but this one probably fits the MPs better.
Okay. Panic over. I think I have picked the right Inferno. But the fire truck mode is definitely weak.
