Yes. It's a problem.
I am trying! I opened the Stunticons! I flippin' love Menasor. He's top (with the PE extension and some decent feet).

Did a search on the toys forum for Open and Unopened with your user name. Easy. In a SLIGHTLY worrying development, someone else has learnt how to move posts.......

I have similar issues. I have a lot of collecting to catch up on so when I started I jumped into it and have a massive backlog of stuff that unopened. I earn enough to keep my buying so the pile gets bigger every month but I work unsociable hours which restricts my time and have a 1 year old son which restricts my time even further and the space I have. I'm lucky to have a very understanding partner who doesn't stop me buying because I work hard, pay the bills and make sure the family has plenty before I look at buying anything. I also have a gambling addiction and she knows that buying a couple of toys every month for a few quid removes the urge to gamble which id spend far more on and is far more destructive. She also allows me a little bit of time to myself to play with my toys, it's not enough to really make a dent in it so the pile grows. I also have the dilemma of to open or not to open and then what to do with the packaging. I've pretty much decided that I will open everything and will keep all packaging for the moment in case I decide to sell anything on. I have Sunday to myself so will try to make a go at it then. MP Shockwave will be my first port of call.

MP Shockwave will be my first port of call. It's a tricky situation. I'd say you're doing the right thing if it's keeping you off gambling, but it's soooo hard I find to break those seals once you start keeping them unopened. Particularly blister packs because there's no way back. Boxed toys is easier because it's just a bit of tape and the toys can go back to almost the way they were. My mentality is to keep and preserve, catalogue and document. I'm really rubbish at opening.

My mentality is to keep and preserve, catalogue and document. I'm really rubbish at opening. I doubt I'd ever sell them so I don't need to worry about keeping their value much and I believe they should be played with or at least appreciated up close. I've opened a couple of MISB items that were years old from eBay and that's a watershed moment, I paid an extra premium to get them in that condition and destroyed the value by opening them so once you've done that there's no qualms about opening anything else. I also suffered buying something years old that was MISB from eBay when I opened it and discovered Megatron had been packaged at factory minus his head.

Free the toy from its plastic prison. How can it be played with inside the package?

I also suffered buying something years old that was MISB from eBay when I opened it and discovered Megatron had been packaged at factory minus his head. Argh! And of course spare a thought for those brave souls purchasing MISB Black Zaraks. The ultimate Schrodinger's Transformer!!! Is it an incredibly rare figure or is it a box of dust and shards of gold plastic? Personally I open everything. The only thing I have sealed is a Universe Hot Shot (for obvious reasons!!). It's a double of a loose one, and I wanted one in nice packaging as it is my sole influence on the Transformers line! I'll keep the packaging if the packaging is nice (ie a nice box set) or foreign or otherwise interesting. Mass release stuff I'll just chuck. The boxes for most Western releases that aren't the premium ones are deadly boring nowadays, it's not worth finding the space to store them. For example, I'd keep the box for a Unite Warriors Superion, but I'd chuck the packaging had I bought the carded/boxed ones separately.

Right, I'm starting to get worried about Shockwave. Do you accept returns? Nah, I doubt he's THAT bad. Maybe I've just had my ambitions subverted by the response you and Pinwig had to him.

It feels like a lot of the shockwave criticism is down to him matching the cartoon not the comics so as a non comic reader you may have a different viewpoint!
