apart from loosing the ability to buy I'm quite liking the new version of the apple app. Download speed seems faster for a start

Hmmm. From checking my bank statement I see that Comixology purchases now included a 'foreign purchase fee'. So a $2 back issue actually cost me £2.19.
Hmmmm.

That'll be your bank, not Comixology.
Do it through your Paypal account or the UK site and you shouldn't be charged.

Fuck Comixology. This was purchased through their new Android app as an 'in app' purchase. The old IOS app had no hidden charges. Back to paper comics! -Ralph

Yeah but how often do you use the likes of HLJ and BBTS now? I get a charge like that *every* time I do.

I never get these charges. As Comixology is now more expensive to use for UK customers I will go elsewhere. If the store says a comic is a certain price I expect it to be that certain price.

I started getting those three or our years ago when I used my debit card to pay in foreign currencies. It did irk me having to pay a handling fee to my bank, but most of the places I do business with now either have the option to be charged in pounds (Drivethrurpg.net) or take Paypal, which charges my bank account the UK pound equivalent of what I am paying (hence no handling fee from the bank) and then does the conversion their end,
My bank are already charging me a fee every month for the priviledge of having my account, I take a dim view of paying them a further fee. Why can't we have a C-Bill style isupra-national currency? (Mind you, then I'd probably want to negotiate salvage clauses in my employment contracts as well. :-)

Paypal's exchange rates tend to be slightly better than the bank's too

If there is a paypal option on the Android app then it is literally invisible. I can't see it.The only way to avoid a handling fee must be to go through the Comixology website?
Fuck me. And I had thought the Android app was easier!

Ok. So the Comixology UK website has an invisible paypal option too so I had to use the card. I will wait and see if this avoids the fecking foreign handling charge.
What a hassle. I now understand why folk discussed how changes remove impulse buying and browsing. It really does want to make you just get what you came for and quickly leave before you punch a wall!

Ok. So the Comixology UK website has an invisible paypal option too so I had to use the card. I will wait and see if this avoids the fecking foreign handling charge You should be fine, because the Comixology.co.uk site bills in UK Pound, rather than US Dollars, like the app used to for in-app purchases, so your bank shouldn't have any currency conversion to do. I'll admit that the process off "add comic to cart, then add another comic to cart, then press button to confirm payment, then press button to complete purchase, then close web browser, open app, locate comics, download comics" is one I find considerably more convoluted and time consuming than "press purchase button, confirm purchase, do something else whilst comic downloads" and it gives me plenty of opportunity to think "I can live without this" and change my mind about buying stuff. But then, Amazon's own site design makes me less likely to buy stuff as well for that matter. (I find that online shopping makes me less likely to impulse buy in general than purchasing in person. Probably to do with the lack of distractions and outside stimuli clogging up my brain and muddying my thought process). Karl

On checking my bank statement, buying from the webstore and then downloading from the Android app does indeed avoid the extra foreign purchase fee. Whereas buying directly from the app does add a hidden fee!
Problem solved, but I can see Comixology/Amazon losing more casual or occasional UK customers.
