2017 is the 15th anniversary of Armada. The plan is to produce a fanzine for TF Nation based off the sterling work done on the Rock Lords one. Pitch me what you want to contribute, and I'll put it together. The aim is to have as wide a variety of submissions as possible. Nothing is off the table! The format of the fanzine will be b/w, so all illustrations would need to be lineart. I managed to get colour last year but that was a HORRIBLE AND COSTLY EXPERIENCE! The inner pages of the cover can be colour, so we could have a picture on the back too, but I'd like the first inner page to be a Toy Fu one again. Note for illustrations: avoid big black blocks if possible, as this eats up printing toner! (ie nothing set in space or at night!) Let's try to get submissions in by the end of January 2017, which seems a long way off but will let me then compile and get it assembled. Also it means there's more room in case stuff goes skew-wiff and more time to do other projects as well. Each page is about 600 words, or less if there's an illustration involved (so 300 words if you want a half-page illustration, 450 words if you want a quarter page illustration. Each submission should be 1-2 pages max. Here are some ideas: - Cover - A wraparound again would be fun. I'm happy to colour it. Ed said he had an idea?
- Comic strip - Andy wants to do one, and Matt D and I look like we're doing a jAaM 2?
- Text story - Rich is up for this?
- Art - Ed wants to draw Optimus Prime
- Letters page
- Centrefold - Do we want to do this again? Can't guarantee colour this time!!
- Profile - profile of minicons/teams as lots didn't get profiles? I think all the big guys did?
- Fun activities page
- Cartoon overview - what would be fun would be one person doing 500 words on why the cartoon is AMAZING and one person doing it on why it is TERRIBLE in a vs setup. Or I could just write about why it was amazing!
- Something on Panini comics?
- Something on the playstation game?
- Something about the toys? - Phil said something about a minicon article?
I feel like we need to tick off the major media - ie Panini, Dreamwave, Minicomics, cartoon, Playstation etc, but not necessarily as guides, more pages 'inspired by'. I could put together an overview of all of them like with the Rock Lords zine. The important thing is that it is fun and engaging (like how I hope the Rock Lords one is) and where there is factual stuff it isn't dry and boring. ALSO: I want to do a Minicon fanzine (really tiny, like A8 size) to go with it that will POWER UP the main fanzine. Each page in the mini fanzine will have a corresponding page in the mini fanzine with either an additional (tiny) piece of art or some extra text - I estimate about 60 words will fit on an A8 page, so each submission will need an extra tiny page to expand on it somehow. If you want in, let me know and pitch an article! Again, we want fun and variety!

I can help out probably a cartoon overview why it was terrible I've been thinking about this, actually I feel the tone of the fanzine needs to be more positive, as there's already been a lot of bashing of Armada and it's too easy! Happy to be talked round though!

I want to draw Hot Shot in some capacity. Also, I can try and pull some words together on the game if no-one better equipped comes to offer.

I feel I need to finally put in to writing my ongoing rant about why Armada can not be considered animation.
But I don't think I could make it positive.
Unless I explain why Armada was the best motion comic ever. I suppose thats equally true.

I have got hold of the Micron Legend animation (which was actually finished) with the Armada dub laid over it, it's really good! (sometimes)

As long as its not every armada toy in vehicle mode I wouldn't be against doing the centrefold if I can think of anything.
Otherwise I'll be happy to do some art for the "miniconic".

I do genuinely like the game, and would write a fair, balanced and UTTERLY POWERED UP BY HIDDEN MINICONS review of it.

You mean Armada got unfinished work which wa completed before Japan dubbed it? Yeah. About 14 episodes had major changes and 12 with minor off the top of my head. Cartoon Network wanted a big order up front, so the US versions were basically rushed by 6 months. A lot of changes are minor but some are really crazy! (Some people would have you believe there are a TON of changes, others barely any, but the real answer is somewhere in the middle)

I'd be happy to do something on Pannini if no one else want the challenge. Probably more tongue in cheek than serious analysis as it's really quite awful (bar Simon Williams art who seemed to be the only person involved who put any effort it. I remember Andrew Wildman at an AA cheerfully saying his stuff was intentionally shit because it didn't pay enough to put any effort in. Once you realise he works like that it's fun calculating excatly how much he feels he's been under paid on all his other modern TF stuff)and that wouldn't really match the tone. Perhaps something written by the VERY VERY ANGRY Starscream who hosted the letter's page when he bemoans people not loving it enough?

So, yep, I'd like to do a DW continuity text story. My trades are at my parents' so I'll retrieve them and give them a read for inspiration. I imagine it will focus on the relationship between a minicon and a bigger bot given that's what set Armada apart but I reserve the right to change my mind. Was a reason ever given for the name? Armada - it seems a bit random. The suggested deadline sounds fine (for the moment )

In re: the cover idea. It would only be a single pager by necessity of design. It also features hot shot, who many others wish to draw. ergo I am happy to either a) pass on the idea for someone else to draw, or b) skip it altogether.

At least it might. I need to see the Micron version.

Starscream needs to reprise his letters page. If nothing else from this comic, this needs to happen.

Well a single page cover is fine too, but we'd also need an image for the back too. If I'm paying for cover printing, it's all gonna get used!!

I know someone who works for Panini - we were in a stage play together earlier in the year. I could ask if she was around when the Armada comic was out and see if she has any interesting stories to share. Might have been before her time, but worth an ask.
The centrefold does need to include at least every Minicon! I suspect the nightmare of drawing that would pale in comparison to actually colouring the thing!

I am a Minicon fan. I cannot tell you. But it's into the several hundreds easily on just Armada minicon repaints alone.
Bear with....

That would be interesting, though it was OH GOD 2003 it was published D: D: D: Also apparently the broadcast of the Armada tv show was August 23rd 2002, making TF Nation nearly bang on the 15th anniversary (assuming it takes place around the same time!)

On a completely non sarcastic note, perhaps Pat Lee will be free to contribute some lovely art if he's not doing much nowadays.
