Yes, but when Ralph was growing up 'bum' had a far more innocent usage, meaning 'hill' or 'valley side', in the sense of the positioning of two opposing armies, so 'far up Phil's bum' meant 'thoroughly entrenched within Phil's loyal followers'. It was only as an adult that Ralph learnt 'bum' meant 'bottom'. Why, even as a lad, his parents often referred to him affectionately as 'Bumjoy'.

This gave me visions of Ralph leaping on people during the wedding ceremony and force feeding them sausage rolls before it was allowed to take place. The terror on the faces of the guests gave me nightmares. |
