With the advent of reality TV and the internet, Varos is oddly more prescient today than when it was first broadcast. Still doesn't make it any good. The slug guy is Sil, he hadn't appeared before but the actor did an amazing job. Sorry, not a Sil fan. Ian only has one story from this season, but there's an odd running theme throughout it of people being turned into different things. Happens every story!

I like the American chap, even though he seems to have gone to the Richard Nixon school of acting. What's with his sideburns though? It was 1971, further proof the story is set when it was made.

The Brigadier is very cool.
The Master is cool.
And the 3rd Doctor Rules.

Oh I like her. That's the famous Peri isn't it? That's ma boy. It is indeed. You must see her first story at some point, Planet of Fire. She spends part of that in a bikini.

I liked the 6th Doctor! Odd mix of some of the other Doctors that I've seen. But as Pinwig said in the Doctor Who thread, it's hard to take him seriously in that coat. He hasn't really settled into the character at that point, he's still all bluster and pomposity, which gets toned down toward the end of the season and into his second one. Varos is a great idea and I've no problem with the violence, but I do think Baker spoils it a bit with the overacting.

Vague continuity link to the previous story. The problem with the Master at this point is that his stories come so thick and fast they run out of decent reasons why he always escapes. Until they actually catch him that is, and force him to watch The Clangers in prison.

Huh. Well, Jo's working out just fine for me. Doesn't take long to see what Barry Letts (producer) and Terrance Dicks (script editor) were thinking there in replacing Liz with a younger, more bubbly air head type. The Third Doc's paternal relationship with Jo is probably the best Doctor/companion partnership in the whole series.

I wouldn't even say it was paternal, I think it goes beyond that. Look at his reaction at the end of The Green Death when she leaves.

Err, rankings you say, Dear Boy? Very well... Am I ranking them against each other, or ranking them on some other kind of scale?
Right, eye-lids heavy, was socially interacting earlier at a children's hollow's eve party, which always takes it out of me, you know.... saving finale of Axos for tomorrow. Pip pip.

Ooh. I'm not sure I can agree there, chaps. I'd say platonic, but not beyond that. They certainly love each other deeply by the time she leaves, but not in a Tenth/Rose way.

Err, rankings you say, Dear Boy? Very well... Am I ranking them against each other, or ranking them on some other kind of scale? . Up to you! Ok. I have given this MUCH thought and virility of cognition. I believe I should rate them as the 'Film' threads, in 'Favorite' order. So..... 1) Inferno 2) Remembrance of The Daleks 3) Claws of Axos 4) The Five Doctors 5) The Ark in Space

I think it was more than paternal... -Ralph I'd tend to agree. I'm not sure that it was consumated, but the feelings involved do not strike me as a father-daughter relationship. Especially in the light of events in the Green Death and the "he reminds me of a younger you" line in there. Karl

I think that's just her saying she admires his qualities and has found them in someone her age. It's actually her saying she doesn't have a sexual attraction to him because otherwise she wouldn't be going after Cliff.
