Really enjoying the new take on Sherlock.
While it can't help but not be as grand as the original tales it is very enjoyable and Cumberbatch is great in the role of Sherlock.

I know that article is dated today, but that news has been going around for a while. Cumberbatch and Freeman IIRC are primarily contracted BBC actors despite involvement with other projects.

Quite the opposite in fact Ken: Until recently Gatsis & Moffat were, as quoted in the linked article, saying this could be the last series

I wonder if we will get to see Colonel Sebastian Moran, and will he try and give someone a Basher Moran Special.

Sherlock - The Abominable Bride {Spoiler}Not what I was expecting but enjoyable, though part of me wonders just how much Gatiss and Moffat enjoy trolling the fanbase.
Looking forward to S4.

Looking forward to S4. I watched my first episode of 'Sherlock' last night. I have boycotted it until now because if there's one thing that belongs in a very specific period of history (i.e. when forensic science in the British police force was in its infancy), it's Holmes. I had heard that this episode was going to be set in the proper time. That wasn't an episode of Sherlock Holmes, that was an episode of Doctor Who! Cumberbatch remains no threat to the throne of Jeremy Brett as far as this Holmes fan is concerned. 'Dickensian' remains amusing. Today is a great day for the main terrestrial television channels on the quality blockbuster front! Between them, BBC1, ITV1 and Chennel 4 are showing 'Iron Man Three' (the Radio Times spells it correctly!!!), 'From Russia With Love', 'The Dark Knight', 'Mission Impossible', 'Mission Impossible 2' and 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy'. Also at 9pm on Channel 4 is a documentary on 'The World's Greatest Spy Movies' according to real agents of the CIA, MI6 and KGB. Really in the mood for this, as courtesy of a Christmas present I have been watching many Michael Caine spy movies this week. Martin

My Sherlock review: Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh I was really really enjoying it until halfway through where it turns out it's all a dream (!) and then Moffat seems to lose interest in the entire mystery that the story is about and doesn't bother to solve it, instead going off on some meta narrative and incredibly patronising 'feminism' where apparently it's perfectly okay to run a suicide murder cult if you're a woman

9pm... Hmm. I think I might give that "World's greatest spy movies" doco a go. Could do with something to take my mind off management and strategic planning stuff at the moment.
Not seen Sherlock, that's a thing for another day as I am still trying to catch up with the last episode of the Beeb's "And Then There Were None". Seen two episodes and quite enjoyed them, apart from the usual catch of "These people are mostly quite hateful really..." which is inherent in the original text.

Watched Sherlock.
That is a show which has lost it's way by quite some point.

Watched Sherlock. That is a show which has lost it's way by quite some point. Andy Yes, it continues to travel up its own ass. But then with the mention of Sherringford we get closer to a finale that is an adaption of All Consuming Fire...

Watched Sherlock. That is a show which has lost it's way by quite some point. Andy Yes. I watched that on New Years Day and came away with a strong feeling of "Well. That was a thing that was on my television set...". I am currently curious to find out if my sister made it all the way through - she had not been impressed with last years installment either and was going to give this one a half-hour or so to convince her not to walk away from the series. I have to say that I think I am probably done with Sherlock at this point. There is precious little that I like about Sherlock Holmes left in there now - indeed, they don't even seem particularly interested in deduction and mysteries - let alone clever solutions to them - so I kind of feel it is aimed at someone...other than me. I don't think Sherlock has recovered from The Reichenbach Fall.
Everything since has been muddled at best.

What annoys me is that every single episodes mystery revolves completely around Sherlock and his friends. It's so insular.

Only going to get worse - Sherrinford was name checked at the end.
