Surely if it was Burning Convoy, they'd call it Burning Convoy> I'm wondering if it's going to be more an Optimus-Prime based repaint, like Primal Prime or YotS Air Attack Prime. Only good.

I dunno. So far all basic repaints are all still the same MP number as the original, just with a letter added, right? Like red bumblebee was MPXX-B. If it were just burning convoy, I'd think surely the exact same applies.
What comes to mind is Optimal Optimus. But 1) surely that would justify a larger and more expensive toy, and 2) I'd think if they did another BW, it would be Megatron, Dinobot, or Lioconvoy.

You're wrong. They're different characters. You're proposing that this might just be Burning Convoy. But plain repaints do get the same MP number as the original. It goes all the way back to the original MP Optimus with the like, dozen repaints he got. Dead Optimus, Red Bumblebee, weird Black Hotrod, Marvel Grimlock, all use the same number as the original release. Just with a letter suffix attacked.
If it were just Burning Convoy, there is zero reason to believe it would be any different at all.

Different characters have also shared the same number: look at the multiples of MP11.
Basically the MP Numbering is a mess!

Well... that's tedious. And unnecessary. Saves me some money, though.

Well, 1) that is not deserving of it's own number, and 2), I might be vaguely interested if it had a new toy accurate head and chest

Isn't there a faceplate alternate face? Here's the original's part

Yeah, but a truly toy accurate head would need a little more than just a face plate and a proper head would go some way to justifying this a bit more.
So where's toy accurate Shockwave then? that's the only way I'm buying that turkey.

Yeah, but a truly toy accurate head would need a little more than just a face plate and a proper head would go some way to justifying this a bit more. Agreed. He comes with the lipless face, a new mutant head mask that can plug into the back of his head, and the growling gorilla face painted like the toy. A new flail, and a new combined sword. But there's a bit more to the original toy head design than just being mouthless. It's bit different than the animation model, which the mouthless plate is based on. I dunno. For a toy accurate version, I think the original toy is preferable.

There... there are people who like this? Well I guess there's no accounting for taste. (He says, not entirely unaware that he's made a large number of questionable choices over the years...) But... I dunno. For a toy accurate version, I think the original toy is preferable. ...that kinda hits the nail on the head for me.

You guys are mental. The MP Primal we already got is perfection. I'd kinda liked to have seen him come with the show's shield, or the Cyberbee that drove him bonkers in Gorilla Warfare, but otherwise perfect.

It's nice, but not for me. Still holding out for a Clear Convoy version, I would be all over that like a fat kid on cake.

I prefer it too. I think the difference is that it looks like a toy now, as opposed to a display piece.

Ditto Cartoon accurate is something that no other toy has been, attempting to make the mould then toy accurate... meh. Having said that if the robot head had been shrunk slightly I might have bought it, because I'm convinced the existing head is a bit to big.

See, whereas for me it's good enough to be a display piece, but it's also a toy. At least is the appeal of this particular Masterpiece. Different horses for different courses, I guess.
Although, as the saying goes, trukk not horss! Maybe.

Indeed.
For me if something is just a display piece I don't see the point in it.

I think the trick with the MPs is to produce a toy that also looks good posed as a display piece. I can't explain that very well but I think Inferno does it right.

Yeah, I wouldn't describe my MP's as anything other than toys. They're on display, but they all get fiddled with and played with, so... mileage may vary of course but I wouldn't buy any transformer and just stick it somewhere to just look at.

I'm in the "not really seeing the point" camp other than the new accessories. Although, it's better than the grey Red Alert.

If I buy something as a toy I do want to be able to use it as a toy. Due to life and kids and work and other stuff like limited space getting in the way I rarely have time to play with them much so I tend to have a quick play about/transform with them then pick my favourite mode to display it in because it'll be a while before I get near it again.
I do have some statues and dioramas that are really only good for display but not many.
Anyway, back to the topic, I'm in the camp that the repaint seems fairly pointless but it does look more like a toy now. It's making me want to go and buy the original toy which I hate because then I'd need to acknowledge that Beast Wars is an actual thing. And, you know, eugh at the thought of that.

I think I figured out why this looks so off to me. It's completely lacking in the marvelous sculpt details of the toy. Meanwhile the mold was designed to look like the animation model, and not the toy. As such, completely lacking in sculpt details, it ends up looking like a low polymer and under-detailed CG model.
