We've lost another great actor: Sir John Hurt dies at the age of 77Seventy-seven seems a suitably advanced age, but I can't help feeling that we've lost him in his prime. John Hurt was actively taking on new projects up to the end. He could easily have declined the BF audio work, but he did it and gave a great performance. What an amazing fellow! |

I think it's fair to say that John Hurt was a jobbing actor to the very end who never seemed to turn down any job. When his talents matched up with good material he was very good though and I liked his brief turn as the Doctor. -Ralph |

Indeed, Hurt absolutely nailed the role of the Doctor in the anniversary special.
For me, my first introduction to him was as the unfortunate Kane in "Alien" - a "not-much of anything" role which he managed to make feel like a rounded human being in much the same way as his Doctor felt like a complete character.
He was an actor with a very broad career, and both a strong work ethic and a strong enthusiasm for what he did. He will be much missed.

John Hurt was a n actor who, no matter how old he was, always seemed to be coming into the prime of his craft. And one of those voices that don't seem to happen anymore...
