Chess has always been cool.
Can't wait for Carlsen v Nepo. It's gonna be a blast!
I assume you'll all be following the games online?
All apart from Bogatan who needs to concentrate on this game.

Guys, I'm so sorry I haven't been giving you regular updates! What must you think of me?!
The match has been really exciting.
First, 5 draws. A couple were quickish draws- two strong players just neutralising eachother, but three were hard fought with the challenger, perhaps, getting slightly more chances.
But then....
In game 6....
FIRE WORKS!!!
A marathon 8 hour 130 move game where Magnus Carlsen showed why he is best and steadily clawed out a victory in an unbalanced endgame. Brilliant game. Sexy chess.
This exhausting loss obviously had a effect on challenger Ian Nepomniachi, because after a quick draw in game 7, poor Nepo made a shocking totally uncharacteristic blunder and lost game 8 in dramatic style.
Over half way, and Carlsen is two wins up in a the best of fourteen match.

Incredible drama as Nepo makes another uncharacteristic blunder in game 9, trapping his own bishop. Stunning. He played damage limitation in game 10 and secured a draw. But loosing two games in a row to gross errors at this level is... unprecedented. Got to feel sorry for the guy. He's known as a creative, unorthodox player, but has noticeably changed his style to be more conventional for the World Championship match. Maybe that was a mistake...

He did. Or rather, he allowed his bishop to be bashed.

Well, it's over. In the end Carlsen obliterated Nepo. Carlsen won three out of five games after Nepo made fairly shocking blunders in each of them. This seemed to follow the events in game 6 where Carlsen won the longest game in world championship history. Nepo doesn't seem to have recovered from that loss. Commentators are calling it a collapse. Really unexpected.
But I'm pleased Carlsen won. It was a very enjoyable competition.
