Can Martin clarify for us what Avengers he's read/got. I know he's read both Knights of Wundagore & Heart of Stone and everything 2120 something (Trial of Yellowjacket to Judgement Day)
But before and after that?

I've got collections containing Avengers #158-196 and #212-285. I've also read #150-157 and #286-293. So with those 15 missing issues I'll have read almost 150 issues straight.
Also got Avengers West Coast #42-57, and have read #17-30.

Martin: was it 202 or 203 which was missing from the avengers run?
It's not in the box, but neither is my 145 & 146, which I know I definitely own.
Looking at the covers for 202 and 203 on Mike's I don't remember either!

Only three issues in, I'm afraid. I've been away, visiting family in Torquay. But I'm back now and have a few days off, so...

I genuinely want to know what Martin thinks about what I've leant him particularly as a few of the issues in that run are significant and there's some background stories to tell when he's passed certain points.

I know, I was just misinterpreting Shockprowl's post for comic effect.
Finished #200 now.
I'm afraid I fear I may have read Avengers Annual #10 previously in a random Chris Claremont anthology book.

Issues #197-202 read. Jarvis kicks butt and takes names in issue #201.
Issue #203 missing, but it apparently features Wonder Man heavily so I do not mind missing it.

Issue #207 read. The Shadow-Lord is no more. Next: The Berserker!
These issues appear to be drawn by whoever drew the DC Phantom Zone mini-series. A very distinctive style.

Righto, I've now read all the loose Avengers issues Phil lent me.
I'm not sure quite what to make of issue #211.
Issue #210 involved all nine Avengers fighting the Weathermen, and Jocasta saved the day by defeating the satellite in orbit. Then Cap calls a meeting, announces that nine Avengers are too many (why is it too many?), and by the end of the issue five of the existing Avengers (Beast, Wonder-Man, Scarlet Witch, Vision and Jocasta) are out, and Yellowjacket and Tigra (who nobody appears to know anything about) are in. Basically it's back to the original Avengers, but with Tigra instead of Hulk.
Hmmm.
Considering all the threats to humanity that the Avengers face, I would have thought the more Avengers, the better, provided you excluded troublemakers like Hercules, Sub-Mariner and Moondragon who won't follow orders.
Why does Captain America consider the change in this issue to be an improvement? Is the Earth in safer hands now? If so, why?

Shooter's writing isn't firing on all cylinders at this point! He very much finds writing a book and being Editor in Chief too much at the same time. The book flounders for the year he writes - 211-219 and is starting to right i8tself when Stern come along. Saw this on Shooter's Avengers run last week: www.cbr.com/avengers-yellowjacket-jim-shooter/

Avengers was much better when it was one or two small teams rather than in modern comics when literally hundreds of characters are Avengers and so the original point has been lost. Still some good comics but Avengers is more of a brand name now rather than a proper team book.
Nine Avengers are better than a hundred. Captain America was right!

Nine Avengers are better than a hundred. Captain America was right! Cap didn't say nine was better than a hundred, he said six was better than nine, effectively making three of his comrades redundant for no apparent reason. I do agree with you that a small team makes for a better comic, but that can't be Cap's in-story reason, so what is? In-story, if the Avengers are supposed to be Earth's official government-sanctioned superheroes-on-call, shouldn't they build up the capacity to deal with multiple threats at once, or the ability to cope if two or three key members are otherwise engaged, or off sick? If I were an evil alien overlord or robot army looking to take over the Earth, I'd just wait until the Avengers were busy fighting another threat, or doing stuff in their solo comics, or even just getting ready to go to bed after a really tiring day, and then I'd strike! Finished the Avengers/Defenders War Epic Collection.
Loved the interview with Jarvis in the bonus material.
The Swordsman in rubbish, and the Scarlet Witch is very annoying in this period.
On to the 'Celestial Madonna Saga'!
