That is a lot of adventures, but the question is, are they any good? And the answer, mortal, is yea, forsooth! Update: Sif and Balder have just escaped the clutches of the evil Enchanters, wearers of the living Talismen! I had not realised that in the comics Sif is Heimdall's sister and has the ability to transport herself and others between Asgard and Earth. That does not appear to be the case in the MCU. Martin

60's Thor has a shaky start.
From my memories it's about two thirds into the first of the old Essential volumes that it finds it's feet and then ramps up the scale from there.

Yes, I've always heard that so started with Epic vol 4 which is really good. Must check out 3.
Silver Age Cap is an underrated comic that does the opposite - it starts brilliantly, with mostly WW2 flashback stories (as his present day action is well covered in Avengers) and you can tell Lee and Kirby love having him lay into the Nazis, then it goes through an amazingly creative period covered in the second Epic*, and then it's kind of spent out until Englehart comes onboard.
* and I'm not just talking Steranko, which in context doesn't look as special as people take it to be; the issues around it are a who's-who of the 60s Bullpen with everyone firing on all cylinders

Thor Epic Vol. 3 is great. When I'm done with it I'll have a look at Vol. 2, and may dip into or skim Vol. 1.
While I love the Cap movies (more than I do the Thors), I've been totally put off the Cap comics by the two mini books that were released ('Blood on the Moors' and 'The Coming of the Falcon'), which were boring, in contrast to the two Thors ('In the Shadow of Mangog' and 'When Gods Go Mad'), which were ace.

I recommend some more modern Cap. The excellent Operation Rebirth and Man Without A Country by Mark Waid and Ron Garney are well worth your time. It was those two books that finally made me like Cap in comics. Up until then I wasn't much of a fan outside of the 60's cartoon and the 1990 Motion Picture classic.

I don't remember Blood on the Moors - is it Stern and Byrne? I mostly liked their run, though it's neither's best work. The Coming of the Falcon is what happens just after the second Epic I think, and it's a bit of a plod, Lee and Colan phoning it in. Before that you have Lee / Kirby / Buscema / Romita / Steranko firing on full Silver Age silliness cylinders, then afterwards it picks up again with the sadly undercollected Englehart run and then some 70s-era Kirby madness. Other than that personally I'd skip on to the Waid / Garney / Kubert era.

Top Cap, does what until then had been the unthinkable and does it really well. DeMattis Cap up till 300 is great too.

When Kirby comes back to Cap in the 70's the strip enters a fabulous realm of bonkers madness.

The book has taken a... peculiar turn.
Odin has stripped Thor of all his powers except his strength, so naturally Thor goes and joins the circus as a strong man. And it just happens to be the CIRCUS OF CRIME.
Hmmm.

Finished Epic Thor 3 today. Rather satisfactorily, it ends on the issue that begins the hardback partwork volume 'Ragnarok' which I picked up earlier this year.
Now to work backwards into Volume 2.
Or... maybe I'll read all the 'Tales of Asgard' backup strips in Vol. 1 and 2 straight through.
Yea, verily. 'Tis a fitting plan. So shall it be!
Edit: The Circus of Crime were rubbish.

Probably anger some with this comment, but Balder's a joyless bore. Don't blame them for leaving him out of the films.

In the Stan and Jack era it's a fair comment.
He is much better in the Simonson and DeFalco eras.
