Who army builds? (I'm talking toys ofcourse, I don't think any of us are attempting/would attampt to build an actual army of really soldiers. Well, maybe 'Doc...)
I've army built a fairly decent Clone Army, lead by a General (obi-wan in clone armour). Don't have any vehicles for them though, which I prob should in order for it to be a true army.
My overtime fueled nostalic crazy Mrs Shockprowl angering purchsing of the new 25th aniversary GI Joe/Action Force figs is seeing a growing Cobra army arising. Looking good. Some H.I.S.S. tanks on the way. I'm building up to a big fight between the Clones and Cobra. Teh he he.
I AM NINE!!!
So does anyone else army build? And if you do, what with? What made me think of this thread was the photo of Andy Bogatan with his army of Cybertron Starscreams! It blew me away! But it does raise the question of can you army build with Transformers? Which is ineffect army building with the same character? Does that count as army building? How many question am I going to ask in this thread?

There are drones you can army build in BM - Air Attack, Tank and Cycle. In theory you could do it with Stryka and Obsidian too.
Things like the G1 jets and tapes leant themselves to army building and, obviously, the Insecticons. There were multiples of Scourge and Cyclonus in the movie.
Then there's the Terroprcons in Energon, and the Rumble/Frenzy/Scrapmetal in Cybertron. Certain Minicons you could have multiples of - I'm thinking Dead End (Bug)
Note these are all Decepticons. I'm not sure there's any good Army builders in th Autobots, and besides I like the cons to outnumber the bots, and there's not enough cons already.

The Autobots seem to be against the idea of building drones for sending in to battle. The battle droids envisaged by Prowl in the Crisis of Command storyline seemed to be non-sentient in nature.
You could theoretically build an army of Omega Supremes as Dark Guardian (G1 cartoon)/Omega Sentinel (DW G1) and the Decoys spring to mind as possible army material.

The only time i ever attempted it was when i was younger. I had all of the Masters of the Universe (and I'm not ashamed to admit it, a healthy portion of the She-Ra universe as well - my parents had run out of MOTU stuff to get me - spoiled child) gubbins, and wanted a fleet of Horde troopers. I had a good load of them.

Jesus Christ Gav, your disembodied Longtooth scared the crap right out of me.
A guy on the club board has a stunning collection of Cybertron Ransacks including all the official repaints which I think is about 5 or 6. plus another 15+ customs that range from the genius (Leader 1 and his set based on all the Rattrap repaints of the original and TM mold) to the bizarre (A Christmas tree decoration and another based on late Euro G1 or G2, Leadfoot I think)
Im building a collection of Classic Prime molds with added customs and an army of Actionmaster Thundercracker repaints. Classic is done my prototype will be turned into Shattered Glass TC from the April Fool Day comic as I like t he idea of a good TC, Activator Animated Starscream, Voyager Animated Starscream will get the treatment and Vardia HD Movie Starscream is going to get some parts swapped out to make another. Oh and WST SS too.

If you're talking about army building molds rather than toys (like Clone Troopers) well....
There's some gobot/spychanger fun to be had.
I've got 5 versions of each of the Flipchanger vehivle molds (MW, MW Repaint, BWII/CR, RID & RM)
And I dread to think what my tally of certain minicons was like when i sold them off !

I know we tried to count up the number of times the Gobots/spychangers moulds have been used but I think the universe exploded before the mission could be fulfilled. It was around a dozen, I think.

I pretty much tend to stay away from multiple versions of the same toy hence why I've got Classics Ultra Magnus but not Optimus Prime, Classics Skywarp and not Starscream and Thundercracker and also Classics Bumblebee but not Cliffjumper. Just one toy regardless of colour suits me just fine although there is the odd occasion where I have brought multiple versions of the same toy like at AA2008 when I brought minature 'ghost' versions of G1 Dirge, Ramjet and Thrust but that was only because they were sold as one.

I have never aspired to build an actual army of a particular toy, partly because when someone says "army" to me I think in terms of anywhere between several hundred and several thousand individuals (depending on the type of period we are refering to). An army of Clone Troopers or Beast Machines Drones by my way of thinking would require me to have a second house in which to house them. :-)
The closest I have come to this was considering putting together a platoon of Clone Troopers, but I got as far as a mixed force or Clone and Stormtroopers which amounts to twelve, including two commanders, and an attached Mandalorian adviser, when my heart sank at the thought of putting together over double that.
I have in the past owned some smaller formations - I had all seven of the Wreckers who have had toys released at one point (only Roadbuster and Whirl remain from that group now) and at one point I did envisage putting together a complete collection of Strikeforce Alpha members (the 84 Autobots) but I don't see that happening now. I got partway through collecting the "Decepticons Deadliest Killers" as seen in "Target:2006", but realised that I don't actually like Thrust that much and it seemed rather a waste to spend the money on him.
I still harbour a desire to put together a full squadron of Variable Fighters, and I think I may be on course to achieve that. (I've got eleven different variable fighters, of different scales and hailing from "Macross", "Macross Plus" and "Macross 7" - so only four more needed for full squadron strength).
In short, never been tempted to assemble an army of anything but sometimes have considered smaller formations. Only once achieved it mind you..

I hope one day to have all the Action Masters, so I can order them to charge at the massed ranks of the TF's who can turn into things, just to see what would happen.

Urr...well... I've never actually intended to army build but... Shoot... I guess I have a huge Air force! I mean- my 1/48 VFs from Yamato... for the VF-1S, J, A, J-Stealth... ok...not that many... but when you consider that's like one thousand dollars woth of jets... then there's the YF-19, the SV-51...two of them... Hm...ok - not "armies" I guess... but the thing is - if three jets set you back like 600 bucks - then I bloody well am going to call my three jets an army As for things that don't cost a kidney... Not really very much into army building. Really - largely because of photoshop - so there's no need for it. If I want lots of Gundam Tierrens - I'll just copy the picture... Buying different moldso of a character is ok... But there's way too much cool stuff out there and my funds are too limited to say, buy 90 seekers rather than 90 individual characters... That said IF I were to army build any transformers it would be... OMEGA SENTINEL (G1 Encore repaint) obviously Pete

One for the mass collectors here who love thier clutter Has anyone ever tried army building the same TF toy? Toys like the BM Tank drone, Cyclonus (for extra sweeps although now ones would cost the earth), seeker jets etc. I came close to army building Drag Strip once as I used to come them at boot sales etc. Only had 4 though. ===KEN

I've got six or seven Buzz Claw figures (y'know, the Beast Wars Fuzor mantis/lizard). I knew I'd neeeeever be abl to justify the crazy prices for the BotCon "Descent Into Evil" Virulent Clones, so I just got a buncha Buzz Claws instead. They're cheap and easy to find!

At one stage I had 3 Octanes. Not sure where they came from. I also seem to have three full sets of Insecticons between my originals, the Takara reissues and the eHobby ones.
Due to some uncanny luck on Yahoo Japan auctions, I ended up with three Brownings (none of them the actual Masterforce iteration, naturally- I don't have that kind of money). Since they all turn into small Walther pistols it wasn't so much an army as a 00-agent supply kit.

I have one of your Octanes.

Phil's got a classic G1 Transformer off of eBay last night to complete a pair he wishes to review.
However in the process I seem to have aquired doubles of both !
