I kind of figured that it was the McCoy-era version, certainly post Leisure Hive - with the explosion at the end of the titles.

Agreed. The THOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM is very Howell evocative.
I think McCoy would be more
WaaaaaaaEEEEE chah-coooooo-chah-cooooooo-chaaaaa
