I picked up Issue One. {Spoiler}Editorially mandated character death - Kup and one page editorial explanation as to why. I won't be picking up Issue Two.

I had no plans to buy it but WHAT????
That is in no way going to alienate readers, oh no.
I do wonder if all is well editorially at IDW at times......

First Infestation, now vs Visionaries...
Kup needs to learn not to turn up for crossovers. It rarely seems to end well for him...

He does seem like exactly the kind of character who could, in-fiction, shrug it off and be back (on a slightly meta-fictional level).
I think I'd be more upset if it were someone else. As it is I'm not feeling the outrage.

No real problems with the story, it was functional if not great, but the editorial mandate tells me it's not the story the writer wants to tell.
It's the same style of shock that put me off reading many a DC book and then Marvel.

It wasn't even well done, tbh. We go from the final panel which read more like 'oh shit how can he get out of this' than 'oh my god they're dead' to an editorial saying 'well, that's him dead'.

So, I've head a chum has bought this after avoiding reviews. He hopes it is good as it is his first TF comic in many years...

Oh for **** sakes. I hadn't bought a TF comic for about 4 years but was curious to read it because as far as I knew this was the first Visionaries comic in 30 years. I hadn't seen any other comics with that logo on the front and also assumed #1 meant 'the start'.
Imagine my surprise when the comic started with 'previously...' which confused me utterly. What was I supposed to have read before this??? This wasn't helped by the lack of any information to tell me what comics these events happened in. This ****** me off straight away and it was downhill from there.
Then we have 3 pages wasted on 'CHARACTER X JUST DIED EVEN THOUGH THEY'VE JUST BEEN ATTACKED, LOOK WE MEAN IT, HONEST'. Could that space not have been used to introduce the Visionaries or say what comics apparently led to this series? What a ******* rip-off. This comic actually made me properly angry.
The writing, art, colours and lettering were ok but editorial ****** this whole thing down a **** ***** with a ******.

First Strike was the surprise lead in to the series, which is only made clear in the final issue. I wouldn't recommend reading it.

I wish there had been something in the TF v V #1 that had stated this. It makes more sense now I know it is actually #6 of something else though I still shake my head at the thinking behind this. A shame. Something as obscure as Visionaries has one shot at being rebooted but this feels like a botch-job. -Ralph

This has been my main problem with the Hasbroverse stuff, IDW have been terrible at providing the correct reading order in the comics.
Also every title gets a crossover issue one, meaning Optimus Prime already has 3 or 4 issue ones.
It just makes everything more confusing than it needs to be.

The visionaries popping up and moving to Cybertron happens between issues Ah right, I haven't read TF Vs Vis yet, and could barely comprehend what was happening in First Strike. My initial [and only] reading of First Strike, I thought the man had stolen the energy from Cybertron to power up Prysmos and didn't like the idea that a place where technology is a no-no would end up being reliant on technology to power it. I have now learnt that man was Merklyn and Prysmos no longer exists. I know I'll still read them, but really not enjoying all this Hasbroverse nonsense. It's also affected sales of TF comics for my shop, so I can't be the only one.

What is First Strike?? I am very out of the loop with the comics for years now and the Hasbroverse has nuked any possible interest I had in trying again. I'm in fairly much the same boat. I've got the first ten Lost Light digitally which I am slowly reading my way through, but other than that I haven't been reading the IDW stuff since the MTME Revolution issue (the only part of Revolution I bothered with). It isn't that there is nothing in there that I would be interested in - I'd have been willing to try out a new take on Micronauts, and Rom. It is more that I can't see what existing in the same story continuity as other Hasbro Boys Toys gains any of these properties. It is almost as if there is this assumption that because we might like one thing from the Eighties we will like all other things from the Eighties and will want them all to "team-up". Which strikes me as nonsensical. The whole Hasbro Universe thing feels as artificial and wrong-headed as the end-product of the Netflix Recommendations algorythm. (You watched "Ghost in the Shell: Arise" so you'll like "Iron Man: Rise of Techno-vore". Ummm... Eh?"*). Even with Action Man - whose mini-series I really enjoyed, I didn't want to buy a comic where he teams up with a Transformer (alas poor Kup) and had a weird globe-trotting scavenger hunt/prequel to next crossover thingy. (I just read the TFWIKI write-ups on "Revolutionaries" this weekend, and I'm so glad I didn't buy it). I'd have enjoyed another Action Man series in the contemporary action-adventure mould of the first one. But that clearly wasn't on the cards. For me the whole Hasbro Universe thing has actually put me off far more IDW comics than it has persuaded me to buy. Karl *- [Based on real events. My recommendations from Netflix are hilarious in their wrongness at times]

The only toy company I think of that has a large number of fans of it as a brand in and of itself and not just of the lines it produces is Lego and that happened organically over decades. Outside of that do kids (the main buyers of toys, well them and their parents) really pay much attention to who makes them and relate them to who makes other toys they like? Are there 'Hasbro fans', 'Mattel fans', etc in the way that there are 'Lego fans'? Maybe Playmobile? Perhaps some companies in Japan?
Anyway, TF v V #1 will go in a pile the next time I am clearing out books and stuff to go to Oxfam so it will have done some good.

I think it is in many ways all about the "We must have a Universe, like the Marvel movies do. That is what The People want" scramble which seems to be taking place. The same herd instinct that seems to have sent Warner Bros stampeding off in a confused jumble. And thus is karma balanced and the Universal Balance restored. Karl

I'm interested to know how all these books will affect the IDW Complete series of hardbacks. I read that way these days on the grounds they hoover up everything from that continuity and look nice on a shelf, but will that run include all the TF related Hasbro verse stories or just the main series?

The final issue of TF Vs. Visionaries was released today. I had a quick flick through in Forbidden Planet earlier, but didn't see anything to make me want to buy the paperback release. Several people in the TFW2005 thread are already calling it one of the worst IDW series of all time.
