Jetfire and one of the others both have Decepticon faction symbols on their toys. The packaging says those colours of that mould are Autobots.

I'd avoid looking at the faction symbols on the top of the TR Voyager boxes then. They're totally random. Half are wrong.

They aren't meant to relate to the toys within though, it's just the overall box design. Autobot for the first two waves, Decepticon for wave 3 onwards.

The TR boxes also very clearly show which faction a character is beside their name

Either the toys, with Decepticon Symbols, or the packging, with Autobot symbols and text, must be be wrong.

They are clearly meant to be infiltrators. Hence the faction symbols, hence the same body designs. Indeed one of them is even a stealth plane. How could you need more proof?

An interesting new take on the s2 Autobot Cyberjets is presented on TFWiki:

Apparently, the decision to market the redecos as separate characters was a last-minute change of plans that was only put into use in America and Japan; in Europe, Hasbro supposedly stuck to the original idea for said assortment (here named "Mini-Jets"), with the redecos being sold as running change color variants of their wave 1 mold-mates instead, in unchanged packaging featuring package art in the original deco and the original character's name. Thus, Hooligan was available in Jetfire's colors but still marketed as Hooligan himself (which might explain the faction symbols). This practice is only confirmed for the versions available in multilingual French/Dutch/German packaging; thus far, no specimens in English/Spanish/Portuguese packaging or in Italian GiG packaging have surfaced. This would explain why the "Jetfire" release of the figure has Decepticon faction symbol stickers, despite being released as an Autobot.

The assumption before has been that the Euro Autobot Cyberjets on Decepticon Cardbacks was an error of some part by Hasbro Europe, to hear that it might have been intentional is interesting.

The theory has little evidence to back it up linked on the Wiki, but we know that the Dinobots and Constructicons had same character repaints within G2, and same character repaints were planned for Hero Prime & Megatron, Jet Starscream (and Ramjet?), and both Sideswipe & Jazz so there is a bit of credence to this idea.

I await further proof with interest.

For the Japanese release of Transformers Generation 2 the main selling point of the smaller figures was their "super poseability". Several examples are shown with the smaller figures riding the larger figures and strangely a Action Master Primes trailer which they can barely fit

There is a VERY interesting point to be derived from them, I'll see if anyone else can spot it....

From just the limb colours you'd be thinking probably. But there's another factor in play here too. Both Jetfire & Strafe feature G2 Decepticon symbols on their rear stabilisers. These are the only toys in the first two sets of Cyberjets to feature faction symbols. So I think you have to conclude that Hooligan, Skyjack & Space Case are actually Jetfire, Air Raid & Strafe and vice versa!

So Jetfire is now Orange, Air Raid Black and Strafe White, all with black limbs. Black & Red is sensible for Air Raid: the black suits his vehicle mode, and both black & red were used on Aerialbot Air Raid. So now I'm looking at Jetfire and thinking "Why is he orange? He'd be better in white. Like Strafe is." Now White and Red kind of make sense for Strafe as they were used on his original Technobot version. But is you look at the Technobot he's got orange missiles, a frequently used colour on the Technobots. Is there a second factory muck up here? Should the swing wing jet have been white and red, with blue highlights, as a Jetfire homage and the Space Case repaint been the one in orange with the Tigerstripes?

I'm forced to conclude that Cyberjets have been at home to not one, but two mistakes. The Autobot repaint set, looks designed to be quite a tight homage to the original names used once you swap the colours round. Unfortunately they came out the factory wrong. Then, either to cover the initial error, or as a second mistake the Autobots get released as Decepticons and vice versa. which further leads me to think .... If they've got the Autobots wrong should the proper version of Hooligan be green and Space Case grey?

Now I've got my authentic G1 Jetfire courtesy of Robotmasters..... But how about a Strafe with an orange tigerstripe vehicle mode?

The blue limbed toys, the ones with the Decepticon Symbols who are therefore Decepticons, are paired with the Decepticon toys.

The red limbed toys, who I think look more like Autobots, are paired with the Autobot toys
