Given that the extra roof just hangs off the back as unnecessary kibble in robot mode, I wonder if the the figure has a yet unrevealed 3rd mode/function?
I recall the Combiner Wars version reveal getting a similar lukewarm reception before we learned of the Combiner gimmick.

Okay. As I mentioned earlier, we've had the iconic Optimus design as a Legion, a Legend, two scout equivalents, a deluxe, a leader, and THREE masterpieces in two scales. And now finally as a voyager.
Can we get a completely new design for the next go round? Or at least an homage to a non-g1/g2 optimus, like Armada?
I mean, I'm not thrilled with this guy because it's such a weird truck. Cyberpunk is not a look I imaged for Optimus. But I am happy we're finally getting the iconic design in the size class it should have been released in first. But since all size classes are finally complete, and all other Optimi are now heavily influenced by this design too (the generic evergreen design for the three or four kid lines replacing Aligned), can Generations put it to rest for a while?

Oh there's some top trawling of Burns going on here...."Photo-Pulser Proton Launcher weapon" hmmm. That sounds an awful lot like a " electron-pulse gun" It's interesting that there's a weapon missing from the pictures, which immediately sets off a hidden gimmick alert for me. I did wonder if it was something like a HandFootGun: Sideswipe is after all one of the few Diaclone Autobots not to get a CW/POTP version. One of the first things I said to Karl was "is he a combiner limb" I could see that chest covering a combiner port. Hasbro did promise us the older gimicks would be back occasionally: TFW2005 Interview with John Warden and Ben Montano - Transformers News - TFW2005Then as I was lying in bed last night it suddenly hit me that if he, or any other WFC toy, was meant to complete a POTP combiner, he wouldn't need a HFG. There's 3 spare POTP Torsos and 6+ spare limbs, effectively themed two per torso - Powermaster jets with Starscream, Fembots with Elita-1, Jazz & Wreck-Gar with Inferno. Each of the deluxes there brings a hand, the torso provides the feet, any extra limb bot would just need to supply the limb. |

There's some product numbers from last night too, in the file names for the photos, and seemingly the toys are numbered too: E3550 Transformers: Generations War for Cybertron: Siege Battle Masters WFC-S1 Firedrive

E3541 Transformers: Generations War for Cybertron: Siege Voyager Class WFC-S11 Optimus Prime One of the few changes the Japanese made to the POTP figures this year was a sticker with PP and a number on it. Looks like the number is now going on toys worldwide. Also note the number is WFC. Not Siege. And to have a siege, don't you need a fortress or a base to be besieged in? |

I thought that was Masterpiece Sideswipe for a second, very nice. Optimus looks decent in robot mode, though I fear he has a huge backpack. Backpacks aren't as bad as arse-flaps, but still...
We must be due a Prowl....
And 'Seige' makes me think of The Sentry.

Oh! Is it a voyager? I'd just assumed leader. If it's a Voyager I'll have it for the robot mode. That'll look good in the display. It's a good looking op. A truck with a hat though is indeed disappointing as an alt mode. I mean, who wears hats these days anyway? I do because otherwise I find it hard to see when it is bright. Baseball caps help a lot to add some shade due to the brim. -Ralph |

I could have seen myself picking up Sideswipe to replace the Generations one (I never liked that one's head), but... Masterpiece exixts. I know this is a cheaper price point but...
