I can see Swindler being reused as Black Jack. At a stretch Stake Out without a lightbar could be Hyperdrive.

If they go cartoon, I can see Wheeljack being a remould of Ironhide. Ironhide's alt mode is a lot like Wheeljack's in MTMTE part one.

So, with Battlemasters and Micromasters being at the cheaper end of things...
This is a decent line budgetarily. I only need to really concern myself with two deluxes, and some of the smaller stuff because pretty much the rest of the line is entirely retreads. Nice.
Probably have to resort to ebay for stuff given the likely lack of distribution and the seeming unwillingness of webstores to sell you just the figures you want (without you having to pay for a load of cruft ya don't), but c'est-la-vie. (Say you will, say you'll do what I don't :-) )

But more importantly- how does a new Springer toy evade your attention? He's like the second most popular (male) Autobot?!?! Does that mold get a re-tool? In Generations, Rhinox, and TR Galvatron, PotP Grimlock and Hun-Grrr have not gotten redecoed at all. It seems so far there are no current plans for them, either.
Skybyte and Whirl have never gotten a western repaint, only getting a limited japanese Cloud repaint.
Semi-related, the Sandstorm retool of Springer has never been used again.
I feel like I'm missing a TR voyager.

Obviously in for the Battlemasters and Micromasters: both offer something new I haven't got.
Larger sizes.... less sure. Cog, oh yes. But rehashed Autobot cars with no gimmicks.... hmm. Sideswipe an Red Alert, because I don't have them, and probably Prowl. Ironhide.... isn't quite hitting the spot somehow. Robot mode is good but the vehicle.... the black on the back is annoying me.
Chromia is just making me angry at the moment. I'm hoping it's a hand made retool that's missing the relevant combiner parts.
Op is doubful. Not bringing a lot new to the party. It's closer to the 1984 Op than any other Voyager Op, yes, but it's all thrown away with the roof.
Magnus is a big yes though

I'm increasingly less sure about having a "classic" character transform into another version's vehicle.
The more time goes by, the more I either wish Ultra Magnus' vehicle was more faithful to the robot's version of the character, or else the robot was an update of God Magnus, since we just basically got G1 Ultra Magnus.
Then on the flipside, that toy is a version I don't care about since it omits the Optimus redeco.
Now I'm jonesing for a God Magnus and Fire Convoy update. And the car brothers.

Underwhelming seems to be the general opinion on these. The podcasts this week have all been a bit muted. Three things have irked everyone, all of which we've already discussed here: the alt modes aren't Cybertronian, the hyperdetailing is too OTT and the battle damage detracts from the figures rather than adding to them.
I'm going to wait for the actual toys. I love the Takara targetmasters so I'm in for the Battlemasters and the Micromasters look fun. I'm sold on the other sizes simply because the robot modes look right. I really wish they'd reconsider the battle damage though.

I'd forgotten we knew they were doing Impactor & Mirage as (presumably) deluxe toys. I could see Impactor from Ironhide.... That brings the number of unknown deluxes down to 3, unless there's some misdirects with the art or there's some unknown deluxe vs packs out there, which is a possibility given the poll, that soak up some of the characters we know. The poll was: Needlenose vs Tracks
Spinister vs Wheeljack
Impactor vs Mirage hmmm. That might make Needlenose, Tracks and Spinister our last three deluxe? |
