Given the hyperdetailing we've seen in these figures so far, I don't think they'll be as smooth. I reckon they'll look more like the T30/WfC versions.

Watch Leader Shockwave's voyager robot be "Senator Shockwave" while the oversized leader is classic Shockwave. (God I hate IDW Shockwave's backstory)
A few years ago I'd have genuinely expected this to be the case, but now I kinda feel Hasbro is responcible for the end of the IDW continuity specifically because "it's not geewun enough" and they were probably getting sick of requests for IDW versions of things instead of being allowed to endlessly recycle '84-'86 like they want.

It seems hard to refute that being the case. Although James Roberts always had a fixed-length story in mind, in the back matter of Unicron #3 he mentions some plots he didn't get the time to do - which very much suggests that this is not quite the mutually-decided ending that John Barber's been talking about elsewhere...
If it is the case though, then it's sad that we didn't get a Unicron toy. It seems like a Unicron-based event would have come at the urging of Hasbro, but then they got bored. Maybe they decided we can only have Unicron if they do it their way. Hence going back and starting with '84 all over again...

There will be another Unicron event in a year or three.
That's the thing about Unicron... no one is ever able to not use him. He's become the worst and most cliché plot device in TF writing.

Well there are two Unicron toys this year! Yeah, but not a MAHOOSIVE one, like I was after. Bigger than Fort Max. I mean, I know they'd never confirmed that, but it seemed like a natural thing. A god can dream, can't he..?

Considering the price point on the reissue Armada mould Unicron I can't see how it was ever realistic to see an even larger Titan sized one at mass retail. When is that one out anyway? I have lost track!

I have a feeling that James has always had a "trap-door" setup in the structure of his story so that there were things that could be "jetissoned" to allow the core story to finish properly if it came to the crunch. James is evidently an analytical sort, with the kind of mind that would likely have planned multiple routes to the goal. I suspect that the ending of the current IDW TF comics isn't a "everybody thought this was a great idea, lets do it", any more than the "Hasbro Boys Toys" shared-universe idea was. I suspect that if the shared-universe experiment hadn't been tried, or if it hadn't have cratered, then the Unicron event and "the end of everything" wouldn't be happening. But Lost Light would still be ending, likely at the very end of this year or early next. James has always been clear that it was a finite story - it just so happens it was a very long finite story, but that it wasn't intended to run forever. Karl

Given how low the sales on TF comics are these days* I'm amazed the plug wasn't pulled on them entirely years ago never mind that the current versions is getting a conclusion and then some new version at a later date. Certainly if the decision was made to keep making comics a restart would make good business sense. The comics have a dedicated fanbase but a dwindling one. Much of the readership appears to have left and not been replaced by enough of a new readership. This is not a comment on quality, merely an observation of sales. Following this line of logic it would be extremely daft to have whatever the new version of TF comics be to be at all like the old version.
-Ralph
*Reported physical sales. Digital comic sales remain annoyingly unreported across the board

First, and has been said before, good golly that artwork is not only ugly, it's just boring. I haven't seen artwork this bad since U.2 wave one and two. Second, Red Alert from Sideswipe, and Prowl.
