While there's a side of me that knows that Starscream is just a Colonial Viper with a Starscream shoved underneath, it still looks really nice, and I suspect will make my "to buy" list.
I know he's proven really popular elsewhere, but I still can't really get too excited about this Shockwave. Maybe its just because we've seen quite a few G1-esque Shockwaves recently with Cyberverse, but he does nothing for me. I think the armour is just a bit too goofy for me. If I bought him, I doubt I'd ever display him with it (although I admit it does add playvalue, which isn't a bad thing).

Yes I like Starscream, but I am a bit disappointed he's not a tetra-jet. I was promised Tetra-jets. The Viper look isn't bad though. Eager to get him and Shockwavee and compare their sizes with Megatron and Prime.
And goofy is a great word to describe Shockwave's stuff. Does nothing for me.

tfwiki.net/wiki/GreenlightProbably a repaint of Chromia. Which if true, I'm sure will have Phil screaming as two autobot girlfriends are combiners, and two are from the same mold, but have the combining element neutered.

Good news to have Skywarp half-confirmed.

I'm seeing people assume Slamdance is a repaint of Cog.
Which is probably correct, but is the dumbest waist I can think of, as Slamdance is not only the only viable repaint of Flywheels, it's also a near perfect one.

We've not seen Greenlight at all yet, and haven't seen a final version of Chromia so both could still be combiner limbs. Ready to vent my spleen if they're not

Really? All the comments I've seen have assumed Skytread. The assumption is a weaponizer in order to supe up Sideswipe (whom I'm hoping is G2 deco). I admit that makes sense on the surface, but if true, then it's a monumental waste of the name+plus a (as I said) the only viable repaint of Skytread.

We should have some actual toy photos early next week if things go the way they usually do, as opposed to the painted prototype shown only at SDCC. Oh! Are we due another con? Is it New York or summit next week?

No, since Chromia has turned up on the preorders list, there should be pictures of the actual toy on the takara preorders when they go up early next week

Aha. Cool. So we are thinking that will give us final confirmation as to whether she will have a combiner peg. Good oh. I'm eager to know. If she does, I'll have to get Nova. Elita-1 really should have an all female limb set. It makes no sense not to.

Elita-1's cartoon appearance shows her with an all female team, so it would be a reasonable assumption that her combiner team would be all female too.
However Transformers first mixed sex combining team is now TWENTY YEARS OLD!

As Phil says, of the team we have Elita-1, Moonracer and Novastar in Firestar's colours. So if they're doing Chromia it makes no sense she isn't another limb, then we need Greenlight or Lancer to finish the set. Then I'd start regretting passing on Alpha Trion.

Elita-1 really should have an all female limb set. It makes no sense not to. *shrug* Eh. I think I am unusual in that I don't think of the Sunbow Elita-1 character in relation to the Generations one. In the same way as I don't think of Marvel Red Alert when I look at Armada Red Alert. I've found that I simply don't make those connections in my head. Sure, she has the same name as the character in the Sunbow cartoon - but Energon Jetfire has the same name as the The Transformers Jetfire, but there isn't much similarity between them. (actually, given the proportions of the humanoid mode, I tend to see her significantly different to the Sunbow version. I never saw Sunbow Elita as a Gina Carrano, or a Yang - a brawler who hits like a freight train - after all) It simply never enters my head that because the Sunbow character was part of an all female-identifying team then the Generations one must be. I'd actually been considering getting a Novastar, another CW Blast Off and completing the team with Mirage who hasn't got a team assignment at the moment. I find it very odd that fans now wish for gendered Transformers yet insist on male and females being kept separate.

As I said above, the first time sexes were mixed on a combiner was 20 years ago and that passed with little comment so I don't think anyone can be/should be complaining about that now.
However in this particular case there's an existing group of 5 or so female Autobots, 3 of which have been done for the combiner, so it's reasonable to assume the combiner would have been completed from them.
It'd be like releasing Grimlock, Swoop and Slag in POTP wave 1 and completing their combiner with Hoist and Tracks.

In the cartoon, Elita-1's team had distinct characters. So if we get an Elita-1 toy with associated characters it isn't too much to ask that they are the right ones, especially because two are already out. It'd be like Hasbro releasing three Combaticons and two Stunticons and saying, there you are: a team. Gender isn't the point, the point is that given Hasbro are in a real Sunbow/pre-Earth vein with releases at the moment it'd be nice to have all of Elita-1's team, who were shown to be and labelled female in the series. If they combine too it would be even better.

Indeed. It's really not about the gender at all, it's simply about having partial team releases. And whilst there's no need for this team to be combiners, since they never were originally, given that the first three releases were combiners, it's odd if the remaining two are not. It'd just feel weird to me. Kinda in the same way now that if Hasbro were to release Pointblank, Sureshot and Crosshairs but without Titan Masters that'd also feel weird.

Sadly we have the precedent just this year of Battletrap and Flywheels as a pair of differently engineered homages to the same group, so I don’t see Hasbro worrying too much about that.
Maybe that new collector-targeted line could give us POTP-styled Greenlight and Lancer.

I can't decide if I want Siege Sideswipe and Hound. Why hasn't Big Phil done a review yet? I probably should just save my budget. Wave one deluxes usually hang around a while and go cheaper, don't they? Might preorder a Shockwave though. I wish he wasn't quite so expensive...

Why hasn't Big Phil done a review yet? Phil has found witting very difficult the last four months or so. The only review I've written post POTPw2 is Wreck-Gar I think. And I have been rather preoccupied since Siege Arrived. The real key for the deluxes is they are there to be powered up. Sideswipe is waaaaay better than I thought he would be and Hound is very good but they come alive with Cog.

It seems to be all about the play pattern. I need to get some of these toys to have a go. I'm not sure I'm all about play patterns these days. I just want good looking figures. I'm encouraged by the reports of successful shit-splash removal using rubbing alcohol. Things are looking up on that front.
I'm looking forward to the Christmas break when I can evaluate my Gen collection. I'm still on a mission to define the best CHUG release for the 84-86 characters and get a single figure for each character to complete the set I never did back then. Prime Wars has helped with that enormously. We're closing in on a full set of almost similar styled figures.
