How many Micromasters can the Battlefield HQ hold in its trailer? Martin In the Battlefield HQ's defense, it can fit quite a few inside - plus more on top and two in the truck cab, so it beats Overload here. I'd take some photos later, but don't think I can share them here at the moment because the limit is exceeded again.

Good idea - perhaps the theme this week can be Transformer trucks. (Erm, perhaps not - not displaying all those in time).

OK, this is a big selection. In the way you list them you have separated the classics from the new characters, so clearly you realise you could have made this two separate polls, but I suppose looking purely at this set of toys in isolation there is nothing except the buyer's prior TF knowledge to tell which are the new characters.
I'll probably vote for one of the new characters, simply because I am more conscious of the lost ability to transform when I look at the classics. There are no better Jackpot, Mainframe, etc. than these versions. That's not true of the classics.

For most of us in the UK there was no better Blaster, either.
Also, I don't know if it's just me but all your picture links are broken, Martin.

There are MANY ways the Action Masters could have been split up, but since Autobot & Decepticon is how we've done it all along that's what I went for here. Interestingly the groups shown on the catalogue - there's 3 groups of six - directly represent the case assortments available: www.fredsworkshop.com/1990.htmlEach Action Master was evenly packed within a case. Old vs New..... For each old character made there is a new character made. For each Decepticon there is two Autobots. This disparity is rather large: I wonder if better equality could have been achieved, perhaps with a distribution like2 Old Autobots, 2 New Autobots, 1 Old Decepticon, 1 New Decepticon is clearly intentional as it's over all 3 assortments and is continued into the 1991 Euro Exclusive Action Master assortment. Unlike Martin I favoured the older characters who returned and my memory is that their toys sold slightly better than the newer ones. Action Master Companions..... Each assortment contains AM companions gang moulded over the set. ALL The Decepticons have sentient character companions. Almost all the older Autobots have non sentient accessories: The exception is Snarl who has Tyrannitron Almost all the newer Autobots have sentient accessories: The exception is Kick-Off who has the Turbo-Pack Kick Off & Snarl are in the same assortment: I'm tempted to think that at some point in the design process they swapped accessories round. Over each assortment there are 3 Animal companions, 1 robotic companion and 2 non sentient accessories.

Blaster, Grimlock, Inferno, Kick-Off and Snarl all have strength 9. This represents a drop of one point for Grimlock, a boost of one point for Blaster, and no change for Inferno and Snarl. Bumblebee is the weakest at 3, which is an improvement on his original 2 but a drop from his Pretender/Legend strength of 7 and Goldbug's ridiculous 9.
Mainframe is the most intelligent at 10, followed by Jackpot, Jazz, Rad and Skyfall at 9. Jazz was originally a 9, so this is nothing new! Inferno, Kick-Off and Snarl are the least intelligent with 6 (no change from 1985).
Seven out of twelve - Grimlock, Inferno, Jackpot , Kick-Off, Rad, Skyfall and Snarl - have speed 2. Really missing those vehicle modes, guys! Even the Dinobots had speed 3 when they could transform. Rollout is way ahead with speed 7 thanks to his turbo backpack.
Grimlock has endurance 10, followed by Inferno, Kick-Off and Snarl on 9. That's a one-point boost for Inferno from 1985, no change for the Dinobots.
Bumblebee and Grimlock are joint leaders with rank 9. Bumblebee was originally a 7 but now he's overtaken Jazz. At this rate of career progression he might one day deserve his own movie... As a warrior, Snarl is the lowest at rank 5. But it's an improvement on his original 4.
Blaster, Bumblebee, Grimlock, Jackpot and Rollout all have courage 10. This is a boost of one point for Blaster. Mainframe is the least courageous at 7.
Rollout has the greatest firepower at 9, Bumblebee and Mainframe the least at 5.
Half of them - Blaster, Bumblebee, Jackpot, Jazz, Mainframe and Skyfall - have skill 10. Bumblebee was originally a 7, Blaster originally a 9. Snarl is the least skilful on 5, a one-point boost on his original 4.

Of the classic characters, Shockwave was my number one priority at the time, and he's great! Have him up on the bookshelf behind me right now even.
Funnily enough my daughter got my other Action Masters out the other day, and she really loves them, especially the new characters (for some definition of "new"...). Treadshot is now officially female, and an undercover Autobot agent.

Treadshot is now officially female, and an undercover Autobot agent. According to TFWiki, you can tell by looking at Treadshot that he is supposed to transform into a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum pistol. Rollout appears to be a bulldozer/excavator, Rad possibly a motorcycle, Jackpot a Ferrari Testarossa. Martin

I've voted Kick-Off, strikes a nice balance between older Autobot design elements and Action Master stylings, and all that lovely bright orange. Welcome to the 90s!
Where the Autobots are concerned I think pretty much all of the new characters are better than the classic ones, maybe because they were designed for this kind of toy, though I had fun recently drawing some of the classic ones for my fanzine piece.

IIRC Krok's meant to be a jet of some sort - plane windows on his chest

Your image posts are frequently broken. Probably because I'm always posting from Botch's archive, and Firefox seems to have a problem displaying images from that site on the forum (though MS Explorer shows them fine), though it didn't used to - just the last few months. If Phil can tell me how to make images from that site appear on the forum on all web browsers, I'll be grateful! If I post an image from another site such as TFWiki, Firefox will display it just fine: Martin

I had no idea about his her mysterious origins! tfwiki.net/wiki/Treadshot_(G1)#NotesAn Action Master that was based on a pre-existing toy that wasn't a Transformer. I love this kind of trivia!

Are any of the others alt modes known? TFWiki speculates that some turned into Cybertronian vehicle modes. Powerflash is perhaps an F-4 Phantom jet. Slicer is obviously a Lancia Stratos Turbo like Wheeljack. Martin

It could be that you're seeing them okay because the images are cached on your computer from visiting the site. Sometimes sites block images from being linked to from other sites, in which case you see the images but no one else does. I've been caught by that before when I've linked to an image when posting on my PC, but then I see broken links in my own post when I visit that thread on my tablet. Might be that.

Yeah, I think you're right. When I exit Internet Explorer and go back in, they're broken there too. But it's only been this way the last few months. Until recently I could see images from the Botch site on the forum on all browsers even when they weren't already in the cache. And oddly if I create the post in Firefox, the images are broken, but if I then open up Internet Explorer while Firefox is still open, without visiting the Botch website in that browser, the images appear!
