I know I'm talking at cross purposes, but the Baldichaps go lovely on Scourge's base behind those launchers. I love it. It's certainly a base with plenty of action features.

All 1995 toys work absolutely fine with Laser Primes Combat deck base.
They don't need to be able to live in it, just stand behind it in battle. It does it's job absolutely fine. It's like Primes Action Master trailer/base.

IMAGINATION IS HOW YOU CREW IT!!! JUST HOLD TOYS IN YOUR HANDS AT IT AND GO 'PEW! PEW!'!!! -Ralph Nobody is doubting it's "pew, pew"iness. I'm doubting it's ability to interact with other toys. All 1995 toys work absolutely fine with Laser Primes Combat deck base. They don't need to be able to live in it, just stand behind it in battle. It does it's job absolutely fine. It's like Primes Action Master trailer/base. Standing behind it is the problem. The inside of the tanker sides, that form the floor behind the walls in base mode, is not remotely a level surface, covered with lots of gaps to store weapons in. You can't get smaller toys right up against the wall - I tried with my Gobots (well Spychangers) last night who are just the right size to be peering over the top of it. I wonder if at some point in it's production the base mode lost flat panels that should have covered the weapons storage?

Finishes tomorrow, when we will get on to something slightly less controversial..... albeit far more complicated in the long run!
Got something special for you tomorrow connected with that :-)

I meant 'behind it' as in the floor/ground behind it. Prime might have made it so that it protects his troops but doesn't get muddy (metalic sounding) footprints on it. (But then Mirage is the only one to actually leave footprints, as we all know from Sunbow)

But then they're just standing round the base and not interacting with it all. I've just tried putting a bit of stiff card over the weapons storage and my goodness it makes a difference being able to get the Gobots right up against the wall. They feel like they're in the base and the space behind the wall is a functional one.

Of course, shielding from enemy fire behind a barricade made from a fuel tanker is probably not the best idea in the world.

Not like that they couldn't. The only place they could stand ON the base was behind the tower

I think we now need an extra poll on which is the best trailer/base.
We have 5 Optimus ones to choose from as well as Ultra Magnus, Thunderclash & Rodimus to choose from. Possibly Pyro too? Actually, should Rodimus' trailer count?

Actually, should Rodimus' trailer count? If Rodimus counts, then 1984 Ratchet and Ironhide count. But I suggest leaving Rodimus out to save him the embarrassment. 1984 is the best. It has Roller, firing missiles, a grabby claw, a petrol pump, a place to store Prime's laser rifle, a place for Brawn or Outback to sit on high above the missile launchers. It has a proper disguise mode (except for the Autobot symbol), it can pop the missile tower out of either of those little square holes, and in trailer mode it can completely contain a large Autobot car or two. Beat that! Martin

The 1984 Prime trailer base remains fantastic to this day. The ER remake was just so disappointing.

84 Prime is the only one that feel like a base to me. The rest are barricades or weapons platforms. Which are also great, but not bases. Likewise the 84 base is a pretty rubbish defensive position with its low sides, but a great battlefield medical centre with basic defensive abilities.

I feel we need to consider bases more. Which is the best one from a defensive position? Hmmm.

I forgot to say, one thing I loved doing with Prime's trailer was to open one side of it and keep the other side up. Then the Mini Autobots could rally behind the low wall of the open side, while the closed half kept the rain and bombs from landing on them and stopped them being attacked from behind. Keeping the ramp up also provided extra protection. Martin

I...... I got these two in the wrong order.
Prime in 95 in San Ramon. Dreadwind in 96 from Orlando. Prime was the only toy I got on that holiday so got more attention. Dreawind was bought in a sweep of all missing G2 massively reduced from KB along with all the Beast Wars from other sources. As a result they got less attention. But they have so much play value. Tank mode is a legitamately good third mode. Smokescreens a nicely articulated figure for the size even by todays standards. Dreadwind isnt bad either, but I always found the joints a bit frustrating. Everything seems to be too tight or floppy.
Prime also suffers a bit being an early articulated toy and having the light up arm mean things dont work quite as well a they could. Hes also missing at least one bit of articulation that really annoys me when I play with it, but can never remember the rest of the time. If Im being really picky, I always think the proportions are slightly off, but again when not in hand I couldnt tell you why. "Base" mode isnt my favourite, but I cant deny it looks like a functional mobile battlefield emplacement more than most. I suppose the big rocket should be a bit more protected from enemy fire, but it offers protection for troops and plenty of return fire potential and has a tower that offers an actual height advantage unlike say PMOP. Im torn on the beige grey, I dont hate it but theres probably too much of it and honestly without the crazy tanker sticker Primes one of the most boring G2 colour schemes.
Kinda want to see a photoshop of robot mode in a more traditional colour scheme now.
If it sounds like Im being harsh or dont like it, thats not the case. I think its great, but those few issues that stop it being perfect drive me nuts.

Keeping the ramp up also provided extra protection. Martin I did that too, but then it went from a base with little protection but plenty of space to return fire to a impressively defended base with little option for return fire. I was never entirely happy with either option. I did a similar thing with Powermaster Primes base, raising the road and ramps to create a wall, but then they lost the use of the dual shoulder cannons.
