I don't get the Cyclops reference, but no, Bombshell's legs are not backwards, they're fine - or as fine as any other TF that can't bend his knees backwards. His knees bend forwards simply as part of his transformation - same as Soundwave, and nobody says Soundwave's legs are backwards.
Phil is wrong on this occasion.

I don't get the Cyclops reference Cyclops in the X-Men famously had hollow legs with the front gouged out, and bent backwards at the knee like a bird (No I have no idea what Ralph's on about either)

I don't think his legs are backwards, but I also think that an evil spirit lies within Phil, how should I vote? Only you can decide! -Ralph

I've never seen a G1 Bombshell in the plastic, so I'm taking the safe option and voting 'sausages'. That way I can stay friends with everyone.

Bombshell's legs are indeed not backwards.
There is no way for it to transform properly if they were the other way. This is how they were designed.

They were definitely designed questionably, then.

That could potentially be subjective, too. I've had him for 30+ years and never once, until this thread, had I thought about it.
It was a different time. More thought was put into the alternate mode than the robot. They designed robot parts to be much more flush in vehicle to avoid as many bad panel breaks as possible, and would rather the robot suffer for it.

Alien robots do not have to conform fully to human forms. Bombshell's legs mark him out as an alien being.

But he has feet built into the hollowness - if his legs were rotated, his feet would be in the wrong place.

Does the huge open gap really annoy nobody else? Not me, many toys of its vintage have design elements which have not aged well and they tend to pass me by. If they tried to pass legs like that off these days when the state of the art is more advanced I would be a lot less forgiving. But on a toy of its vintage? Yeah, I cut it a bit of slack. (I also tend to imagine that a "real" Bombshell would have the legs jointed slightly differently and would have a digitigrade walking cycle - just to make it even more uncannily alien when it moved). His waist? In what way? -Ralph You know how he transforms, that his arms are the front fenders and headlights, and in robot mode just leaves that whole area hollow? Then, every single fictional version we see, he has an actual waist. As a kid, that always bothered me.

The new Bombshell toy looks like his waist turn round like most toys so the top of bug rear is front of legs. (the original Autobot cars have waist twist)

What bothered me more was that whilst his knees bent correctly, his thighs couldn't move forwards so he couldn't sit down. That was vexing.

The new Bombshell toy looks like his waist turn round like most toys so the top of bug rear is front of legs. It does. And Bombshell works much better for it. Save the 5mm handle knees..... (the original Autobot cars have waist twist) Some of them. Mirage does, notoriously fragile, so do the Fairlady Zs and Tracks
