The rulebook I'm working to is that the mainstream Marvel superhero and G.I. Joe comics ran alongside the Marvel TF comic, but all bets are off from the mid-1990s onwards. This universe diverges from the G.I. Joe comic when Megatron doesn't show up (i.e. no G2) and I guess it diverges from the Marvel superheroes comics around the time of 'Age of Apocalypse'. I really need to have a look back at my notes for the Age of Apocalypse era Transformers not to mention Transformers 2099.

No Megatron... does that stop Bludgeon battering the Earth with the Warworld?

What about the kids of certain super heroes - Franklin Richards, Power Pack, Kitty Pryde and the various New Mutants? Very likely still around. My 2014-2018 stories have generally been set away from Earth so far (as opposed to the early 1990s 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes' stories, which featured Nick Fury and G.I. Joe), so there will still be superheroes on Earth. I just don't want it to be superheroes who were in their prime in the 1970s and '80s. I've toyed with the idea of exploring who the Avengers would be in 2018 if all the characters from the '70s and '80s aged as they ought to have aged. So far all I've got as far as doing is throwing together a bunch of old and new characters in space, but I'd welcome suggestions as to possible line-ups for the Avengers, etc. in a 2018 TF crossover story set on Earth. No Megatron... does that stop Bludgeon battering the Earth with the Warworld? What stops Bludgeon battering the Earth with the Warworld is that Bludgeon and Megatron were both killed in 'Another Time and Place' in 1991, the final battle in the TF war. It's Andy's completion of the ATAP comic that set me off with all this writing. That, and the way RG1 annoyed me by supposing that the Autobots could just ignore Earth for 20+ years after dropping off the Neo-Knights, and that neither the Autobots nor the humans would take the opportunity to fix Galvatron, Shockwave and Starscream for good following the crash of the Ark. Edit: This appears to be my 7,500th post. Martin

In terms of any established characters that could still be kicking around - Adam Warlock, Silver Surfer, Beta Ray Bill, Thor, Hercules, any of The Eternals, Vision, Namor, the original Human Torch and Wonder Man. Doctor Strange could now be the Ancient one. Meggan from Excalibur. The Hulk and Wolverine - both are extremely long-lived due to powers/mutation. Arno Stark - the Iron Man of 2020...
Younger heroes - Kitty Pryde, Franklin Richards, Power Pack, Artie and Leech, Jubilee, The New Warriors, what was left of the New Mutants that went into X-Force, Generation X, Wolfsbane.

The fun thing about this kind of fanfiction where you split from official canon at the point where all your favourite official stories end (in my case, early to mid 1990s) is you can pick and choose what survives and what to completely ignore in terms of later stuff. In this case, I need to think about what fits in an Earth of 2018 where there are around 50 Autobots living openly amongst humans on Earth - twelve of them armed and ready to respond to Decepticon threats, the rest just doing other stuff - and where Earth is now part of an interstellar alliance with the human colony worlds, Nebulos and Cameron, and has combined forces with them to form a defensive space fleet, utilising a range of technology developed to fight with or against Transformers (Powermaster/Targetmaster/Pretender tech, Centurions, Road-Jammers, Circuit-Breakers, Robot-Busters). I suppose there would still be a role for superheroes to fight Earthen supervillains, but the context for fighting extra-terrestrial threats has changed. Iron Man is almost obsolete technology in this world.
Might be fun to tie in with some of the concepts from that Hercules mini-series that was a TF backup strip, with the Recorder robot, Galactus and so on. Not sure how that fitted into the mainstream Marvel continuity.
The Legacy Virus was around in the mid-1990s - dunno when that would have been eradicated in this universe, and which mutants survived or kicked the bucket.

One other thing I keep meaning to mention about these stories, is I'm assuming a good knowledge of TF toys and comics on the part of the reader. None of the planet names are made up (Derut Four, Rigel Three, Scarvix, Elpasos, etc. are all from the Marvel TF comics), likewise names of places on Cybertron and Nebulos, and nor are any of the Transformers made up (except for the names of the Minispies). I haven't used any G2 or Japanese characters. But I've used a lot of obscure western pre-1993 TF toy characters. So, for example, when I feature Tyrannitron, I assume the reader knows it's this guy - tfwiki.net/wiki/Tyrannitron - and Scorpulator is this guy - tfwiki.net/wiki/Scorpulator - and Fasttrack is this guy - tfwiki.net/wiki/Fasttrack_(Scorponok) - and Tracer is this guy - tfwiki.net/wiki/Tracer_(G1_Decepticon) . They'll all come up in the Great Catalogue Poll at some point. Martin

Given that both Cannonball and Sunspot of the New Mutants/X-Force both ended up becoming Avengers, there's some ideas there. Johnny Storm would probably be about Reed Richard's age at this point in time. That said, the idea of Adam Warlock or Silver Surfer meeting Optimus Prime would be too amazing not to miss.
