From the catalogue poll thread, concerning The Throttlebots: I clearly remember going to Connells in town to get them. It's probably the first time I was able to complete a team off my own bat. Ooohhhhh it's a good feeling to complete a team. And back 'Then' it was... well, unheard of 'round my way anyway. 'To Complete a Team'. Such concepts dare not engage in minds of... us. So..... What was the first Transformers team or sub group that people completed? EDIT: See also Building a toy up to completion from 2008!

Throttlebots would have been the first one I did with my own money, but the Combaticons were the first full team I had. Misguidedly sold in the late eighties but recovered via a TFN purchase this year. SO good to have Bruticus back.

I have no memory, but it was probably the "basic" Insecticons.
If not them, then either the aerialbots or stunticons.

Oh wow, what a great thread!
I... I'm actually turned on by this thread.
'Cos it didn't happen! Did it?! It was so hard to complete a TEAM back them.
My first? Well, believe it or not, it was the random yellow reissue non-combining Constructicons. They just randomly showed up (in Woolworths!) at a time when I wasn't really collecting. I had no idea what kind of release they were. I just knew I had to have them (I was shocked how small they were, but... loved them so ..). Then there was Rippersnapper and Sinnertwin, later in life, to complete my childhood Terrorcons (which I still own). The three other Terrorcons and Power Master Optimus Prime were the last Transformers I got as a 'children person', so completing that team was somehow a Biggie.
NOW I LOVE COMPLETING TEAMS.

I do too. Combiner Wars was the best line for AGES.

The first team I owned all of was probably The Constructicons, bought in one foul swoop in Woolworths c1990
At around the same time I also completed the Combaticons, started 1986 with Onslaught & Brawl, completed using classics.
Several of my G1 combiners were also bought piece by piece.

I never completed a team back in the day - didn't have access to the funds to do so. Probably the first complete team I've ever had of any line then would be one of the Combiner Wars box sets...

Never had a complete team as a child. First time was in 2001/2 when I got all the Ruination robots (now gone).

They do rather come off the shelf as a unit. Mind you buying second hand you get odd ones and have to chase teams down

I am shocked by this lack of childhood team completion. I didn't realise it was a rarity to own a complete Special Team.

Computron was my first complete team, though that was a Christmas gift so I made no effort

RID Landfill circa 2002.
As a kid completing a team was a fantasy - any availability window would have been too short given how much pocket money I got.

I am shocked by this lack of childhood team completion. I didn't realise it was a rarity to own a complete Special Team. I came out of the gate strong then it just went horribly wrong. Ive always remembered getting Sludge and Hotspot and Groove for the same birthday, but having stumbled across my baby book it appears I may have gotten Sludge one birthday and then Hotspot and Groove the next. Either way, Streetwise joined Hotspot and Groove later that day so I had a 2 legged combiner. The following Christmas Firstaid and Blades joined them. But at some Christmas I also got Grimlock while my brother got Slag and Snarl so between us we may have got all the Dinobots first, but for me alone Protectorbots. After that though I join the ranks of incomplete teams. My brother got the Superion giftset, but that sems like cheating to me. We got all the Throttlebots, though may have had to wait for classics to finish. I came very close to a full set of 4 pack micromasters, maybe I did get them all. Not sure. Oh Classic Pretenders, got them, love them. At the time I didn't have a Starscream, Bumblebee or Jazz so they were must have. Mostly though until 1990ish there was always another toyline I was collecting and within Transformers I guess either to me or the parents it made more sense to get a selection from a variety of sublines than just the same gimmick over and over again. Combine that with not really getting pocket money so I generally added to my collection maybe at Easter, during holidays (when the parents made up for the lack of pocket money), birthday and Christmas, there were usually long gaps between additions. By the time classics came along I was all in so got any classics I didnt have the original of plus Woolworths Constructicons and Woolworths minibots. Then dropped off to almost nothing after the comic finished before G2 brought me back in with an almost complete second or third year and the whole of Beast Wars first year (other than Grimlock and Buzzsaw who I didn't get till 2007)

I don't believe I ever had a complete team until the Seacons got reissued a few years back.
I've had all the Protectobots, but not at the same time. I had Streetwise and Groove then, Streetwise and Hot Spot now. Only Drag Strip from the Stunticons, no Aerialbots that I remember. Had Seawing as a kid, and Blot and Hun-Grr. No Combaticons, no Constructicons. Lightspeed from the Technobots.
Only one Dinobot (Snarl), one Headmaster (Mindwipe), three Targetmasters (Sureshot,Pointblank and Misfire), one Powermaster (Getaway), no Insecticons, One Pretender (Cloudburst), one Classic Pretender (Jazz) and I'm running out of subgroups. Gunrunner and Vroom, from whichever groups they were.
I didn't want for robots, anyway! I don't think I minded not having the teams. Even now, I've only picked up the reissues of the Combaticons and Seacons. I'd like the others, but not enough to hunt down original individuals.

As a kid completing a team was a fantasy - any availability window would have been too short given how much pocket money I got. Yep, pretty much the same here. That and of course I was always collecting at least one other line of toys, too - be it Star Wars, He-Man, Thundercats or something. And I didn't get a complete set of anything in any of those. I think the very first complete collection of anything I got was a set of the stand-up Willow "figures" and "playset" bases that came with some of the Kellogs' cereals. That was an exciting time. But mention of the Micromasters reminds me that I wasn't entirely correct - my first complete set was the Universe Micromaster Constructicons, thanks to my stumbling across them in Toysaurus at the same time as they had a 3 for 2 sale. A complete team of six for the cost of only four of them! Yes, they weren't that expensive, but money was tight, then, too...

I'm fairly sure that was my first complete team as well. At least, the first "separately packaged" team. I may have acquirred Magnaboss prior to that, but as that was by definition complete to begin with it doesn't really count, much like Micromaster patrols. Karl

I don't even know if I've seen Willow, more than bits and pieces (which I no longer remember). I don't remember the Willow toys, either... but I remember the commercials FOR the willow toys!
