ENERGON PRIME!
OP1! OP2!
Fun base. Drones add playability and something different. Robot has a lot of charm.
Big chunky fun!
The best Prime toys have a base.

This is tricky, as they all have their merits.
-Armada is the best design, concept, and gimmick (when it works properly), but the worst execution. Appearance wise, it's got all the hallmarks of Optimus, while bringing a lot of new things to the table. It feels right, without being slavish or boring.
-Energon is hands down the most fun toy to play with, but it's the least aesthetically attractive. It gets trashed a lot purely by it's looks alone, by people who've never fiddled with it.
-Cybertron is a straight up good toy. Good design, good execution, good concept. It brings to life the overall classic look in a new way. And back then, having Optimi that look like the classic Optimus was still a novelty.
If you were to ask which I think deserves an update first, that's easy. Which is the best is next to impossible.

Cybertron for me. Most G1-like, big powerful looking Prime. Lotsa guns. Never seen an Energon in the plastic, but he looks fun. Armada was ok, but combined mode was dodgy.

Tricky one this. Energon Prime is easily the weakest but improves a lot once you get Wingsaber.
However it’s a really close call with Superbase Armada Prime. The auto transforming gimmick is fun, I love the G1 inspired normal mode, while still having his own feel with the big grill chest and distinctive vehicle mode. Combining with Jetfire and Overload is an excellent added extra and works better than Cybertron Prime’s replacement arm trick which wasn’t that great.
Cybertron Prime has so much going for him as well. Combined mode looks awesome and he obviously wins in terms of articulation. Also he has a more cohesive look whereas Armada Prime’s supermode is more out there, and I might’ve preferred a more G1 colour scheme for it.
Armada Prime also comes with Sparkplug though, who is utterly fab and just tilts my vote in his favour.
(Fun fact, I voted for Cybertron Prime then convinced myself otherwise typing all this out, that’s how close it is. Both tick very different boxes though.)

Energon is decent, if not excellent, concept, but the vehicle and robot modes (in both forms) are terribly done.
Galaxy Force Convoy is the only one that seems to have met the requirements.
THC01 however prooves its simplicity for such a large toy.

I'm a big fan of the Armada look, sadly Prime is one of the worst examples of a genrally terrible toyline. Does at least have a base mode and lots of play features.
Energon Lots of fun the supermode is great but could have done with a less Power Rangers repaint. Smaller Prime is just a box with legs and arms attached with a transformation that doesnt do anything more than the McDs version and doesnt include a giant energon cube.
Cybertron. Im not 100% on the look of the toy and the smaller bot mode is so badly proportioned that Im tempted to says its the worst of the three smaller bots. Super mode feels a bit top heavy, but just about beats Energon. Comfortably the best looking vehicle mode but less play value than Energon.
Best: Probably Energon, if only it had gotten a really nice repaint.

Not good. The "I am wearing a hang-glider" look doesn't work for me at all. I kind of like the smaller humanoid mode, but this just brings up the point that Cybertron Prime doesn't really turn into anything particularly recognisable to me. Most of the other Galaxy Force/Cybertron toys make a better fist of this (even the most of the Speed Planet nonsense, which at least look like they are cards from some sort of racing game). But Prime is just a sort of lump. By contrast I rather like the Sentai-esque look of Energon Prime, and I think that the drones give it a lot of play-value. Armada Supertrousers Prime is one where I like the ideas, I like the way they tried to give it a vague sense of the old Optimus Prime toy, but diverged quite a bit so that it stakes out its own aesthetic ground. I'd agree that it is an interesting idea that they couldn't do justice to in the execution. Karl

Energon Prime with a red body, two red drones and two blue drones would have been nice.... but the drones themselves are rather..... simple shall we say and Optimus is a bit on the tubby side in smaller robot mode.

CW was the place to do a full and true update of E-Optimus. But, it didn't happen then, so it'll never happen.
Optimus was already homaging it, in sorta a reverse way of Siege Magnus. Two existing deluxes already work for two drones (AB and Nosecone), we just needed a sub and a fire truck.
Although I'd have not been opposed to four straight updates of the drones... deluxe sized limbs with no robots, released as a gift set. (Kinda irritates me no 3P did this... just like they all completely ignored CW in general)

Looking at pictures now and the cab is right but I would have loved to see the limbs in red and blue and the trailer given the g1 stripe. Or an Ultra Magnus version with all the limbs in a mix of blue and white. Basically they could have done pretty much anything as long as the limbs had some degree of colour coordination.
