oh no, genuinely sad to hear that!
The Happiness Patrol is a long time favourite, and fresh in my mind again after reading the excellent Target novelisation for the first time last year. It's such an unjustly treated story.

The Happiness Patrol was one of the Target books that survived my childhood.
Great book and a great story, the Kandy Man was terrifying and sadly used by ill-informed people to kick what is one of the stronger stories of the McCoy era.

The Seeds of Doom is the only one that survived my childhood. I vividly remember my Grandma buying it for me from Dillons in Nottingham one Saturday morning and then reading the whole thing at her bungalow that afternoon. She passed away a couple of weeks ago and that day was the first memory that came to the surface, she really loved Doctor Who and encouraged me to be a fan.

I have been made aware that Ingrid Oliver will be at Em-Con Nottingham. That means Pinwig (for his Class heroes) and Phil will both need to attend!

Surely Pinwig must go to get his LIMITED EDITION CLASS AUDIO PLAYS signed?
The restraining order stops Phil from going near Ingrid Oliver.

Some DW assistance is needed.
We know the Sontaran's weakness is the probic vent, and I'm pretty sure that the probic vent's function is to allow Sontarans to eat/recharge. Tardis wiki backs up this assumption.
Where do we find out in the series that this is what the probic vent does? Is this one of these things that's slipped in via an external source and become truth without anything onscreen to back it up?

I think it's an external source thing.

The citation in the wiki suggests it comes from a comic "The Betrothal of Sontar"

Ralph got so excited there he put the wrong title down! Obviously his desire is for the Destiny release.

I have the CD version of Destiny due to completist urge for the narrated soundtracks and that will do me. Fun fact: it was the release that killed the line after it had run successfully for many years!
Galaxy 4 I have a huge fondness for though. The Target novel was a childhood favourite. Then I saw the surviving episode 1 clip and liked that. Then heard the narrated soundtrack and liked it even more. Appreciation increased when the rediscovered episode 2 turned up. It would be lovely if any more of it turned up, especially as there aren't any telesnaps. I want to see how the planet EXPLODES!

You are of course quite right. I jest. Galaxy 4 is by far the more desirable. Great story.

We all remember the wonderful paintbox that gave us some fine special effects for later era Doctor Who. Here's a wee video showing you one of the devices.

My vote for probic vent is the time warrior novelisation OH OH OH Robert Holmse's in-character notes for that story?? It is definitely something I've been aware of since I first encountered Sontarans - and back then the only easily accessible sources were the two Target Books they were in. I want to say that it was the Doctor Who and The Sontaran Experiment book where I first encountered it, but I'm not entirely certain - and that doesn't rule out the initial source being the novelisation of the previous story. IIRC Sontaran Experiment was released first, possibly followed by Invasion of Time, before Time Warrior!
