My Research for a blog has brought me to an actress called Dorothy Grumbar www.imdb.com/name/nm0344464/The Surname will immediately ring bells for certain members of the forum as belonging to Dalek Operator Murphy Grumbar aka Peter Murphy And when I see that Dorothy Grumbar worked with him as a Dalek Operator on Curse of the Daleks I immediately draw conclusions. One problem: IMDB says she was married to a Peter Bax www.imdb.com/name/nm0079835Then I look at Murphy Grumbar's IMDB entry www.imdb.com/name/nm1527712Yet another alias for the man!

I already knew this from Whos Round! Mr Hadoke mentioned it at one point. It stuck in my head as I was shocked Murphy Grumbar is an alias.

If Murphy Grumbar is the alias, wouldn't she be Dorothy Bax?

"So, the long darkness has ended and the eternity of waiting is over. The resurrection has come, as I always knew it would. Now, where are my Daleks?" This week on Forty Years Of Tom Baker we're watching Doctor Who episode 508 Destiny of the Daleks: Episode Three 40yearstombakerdw.blogspot.com/2019/09/508-destiny-of-daleks-episode-three.htmlThis is the blog entry I rewrote again a few weeks ago

Marvellous stuff, and your writing.
On the subject of the 'spack off' in ep 2, I think Baker confused the line 'now back off' with 'Mexican standoff' in the next one and it got corrupted as he corrected himself. If you try to say sback off, it comes out as spack.

Interesting that rumours abound of Adams writing anything up to 98% of this. There are clear editorial touches, but lots of this sounds like Nation. Stylistically it's very different to City of Death.

I don't think he rewrote 98% of this, but I'd say it's akin to the changes Holmes made to Genesis.
There are whole exchanges that are pure Adams, and then clunky plot bits that are absolute Nation.

Blog news:
Completed a story. That got me going again so I returned to the thing I got stuck on..... and that was like pulling teeth, so so difficult. But, after much moving of text around, deleting bits, writing lots of new bits and lots of photos I think I'm there...... and on the way discovered some more locations really close to me and a railway difficulty I'd not spotted before. Happy. Just needs some polish now and we're done.

The one thing I noticed watching Destiny 4 this time is how flakey the Movellans are. One on one they're very easily defeated, and having the power supply on the outside has always seemed silly.
I've always assumed the reference to the Daleks being robots was just down to generalising, but reading Phil's combination of different evidence perhaps there is something in Adams writing this and not realising the Daleks aren't robots.

I'm rather keen on the idea that they are effectively robots here and take a more organic route afterwards, learning from the story they take a step back, that ironically leaves them open to the Movellan virus in resurrection.

But there is literally a scene with a kaled mutant!

The mutant in question is found outside, nowhere near the Daleks. The dialogue then goes on to imply the Daleks have moved beyond their organic origins.
And, given it's a lump of slime on the floor, we can't be sure it's a Kaled mutant... It might just be putting him in mind of The Kaled Mutants.

I'm a month behind on DWM so I've just finished reading the previous ish. The themed articles that make up the bulk of the issue are annoying me now. I love writing and reading about writers, but all that evaluation stuff felt like it was taking up too much of the issue. What was great was the bit on Holmes' original Mysterious Planet, and the last Saward interview. The rest felt like fanzine filler.
I also have a problem with the subscriber covers. When magazines do this, they generally put a different cover image on that uses the space better - SFX do some lovely arty sub covers. Because DWM use the same one without the text they just look plain. I don't think they quite understand the point of that idea. The recent 'Doctor with still from title sequence' covers have been really poor, they look like bland and dull fan montages. I also have no idea why the Cybermen were on the cover of the last issue as there was nothing in it about them. Had the straplines still been there I might have some idea what that was related to. That was a great opportunity for a Trial related cover wasted. Great shame.
