Now robot Santa has been and gone shall we do our toys best ofs for the year ?
Best Legend Best Robot Hero Best Activator Best Deluxe Best Voyager Best Ultra Best Larger Toy Best Reissue Best Exclusive
Worst Toy
Feel free to add more categories and to leave out ones that don't apply to you. Applies to all 2008 released toys in UK, US or Japan. But I'm predicting one toy will walk the Legends category

Best Legend Tough one. Haven't seen any Animated ones myself, but I'm going with Universe Jazz. Best Robot Hero Haven't bought any. The existence of a RH Victory Saber and Deathsaurus fills me with joy, though. Best Activator Again haven't bought any, but Bumblebee looks like the best. Best Deluxe There isn't a single Animated deluxe figure that doesn't belong on here somewhere. I'll say Soundwave for the guitar. Best Voyager Blitzwing. Seriously clever design. Best Ultra Can't remember the last one I bought- Universe Onslaught looks the best of those I've seen. Best Larger Toy Leader class Megatron. Superb. Best Reissue Omega Supreme! Best Exclusive Botcon Hot Rod with his evil beard.
Worst Toy Animated Grimlock, because of all the unrealised potential.

Is there a list of released 2008 toys anywhere on-line? I can never remember what's come out when.

Best Legend - Not totally as sold as some but Megatron is very good Best Robot Hero - haven't really got enough to say Best Activator - Bumblebee if he had proper hands, so Starscream wins fantastic downscaling of an already very good toy. Comfortably of the same standard as the flip changer basics of 10 years ago. Best Deluxe - Erm too many to choose from. Best Voyager - Animated Starscream or maybe Bulkhead Best Ultra - Haven't bought any Best Larger Toy - Leader Bulkhead is fairly impressive. Best Reissue - Again not got any. Best Exclusive - The Seacons
Worst Toy - ACtivator BB for the hands. Botcon Prime for a silly unsuitable paint scheme. Botcon Sideswipe and Blurr because they used two of the worst moulds of the last 20 years.

Best Voyager - Universe Blaster (er, when I get one) Best Ultra - Henkei Silverbolt (again, when I get one) Best Larger Toy - Animated Leader Megatron (had a shot of one, great fun) Best Reissue - Encore Ratchet Best Exclusive - Botcon Seacons! Worst Toy - Animated Voyager Grimlock

Best Legend - n/a Best Robot Hero - n/a Best Activator - n/a Best Deluse - Classics/Uni Prowl. The Dog's dangelies Best Voyager- not sure Best Ultra- n/a Best Larger Toy - Masterpiece Skywarp, closer still to the complete set, mold great in these colours. Best Reissue - n/a Best Exclusive - gotta be, the dream, once snatched from me, but now restored TITANIUM PROWL!!!!!!
Worst Toy - Well, I suppose the fact that the Animated styling doesn't do it for me kinda makes Animated as a whole a disapointment. Although Universe Classics have ment there's more than enough out there to keep me busy!

Best Legend - G2 Megatron Tank - superb
Best Deluxe - Classics Sideswipe/Sunstreaker. Can't decide which colour I prefer. Two robots out of one car. Best Voyager- Animated Grimlock, though Universe Dropshot is pretty good Best Ultra- USA Edition Powerglide I think
Worst Toy - Didn't like the animated style but the toys weren't bad by themselves. Struggling to think of a real stinker for this year actually !

Best Legend: Universe Classics Megatron. A superb rendition of the design which looks like he has just stepped out of the pages of Generation 2.
Best Robot Hero: Haven't seen enough this year to make a judgement
Best Activator: Haven't seen them on shelves except from a distance so I can't really judge.
Best Deluxe: Universe Classics Silverstreak
Best Voyager: Animated Starscream. There's something about the look of the humanoid mode that appeals to me, and it is always nice to see a non-US inspiration for the alt-mode.
Best Ultra: Universe Classics Powerglide (the US release, rather than the Japanese version)
Best Larger Toy: Animated Leader Megatron. A superb design in both modes.
Best Reissue: Encore Ratchet. not that I own one but simply that it is great that one can be owned.
Best Exclusive: Abstention on this one, due to not having any really strong feelings about any of them.
Worst Toy: Animated Grimlock. A design that is just crying out to be a really good deluxe, but far too large and offering too little for its price point.

Of for the love of Primus. Have you not seen pictures of him beside 'G1' Prime? He towers over him!
The MP's are not in scale to each other!
Be satisfied! You finally got what you wanted! A HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE Grimlock!
Don't make me come over there with the naughty hammer!

*makes like his grumpy two year old*
WHHHHAAAAA!!!! BUT IT'S STILL NOT RIGHT!!!!! OTHER M.P./ALTS ARE MORE THAN EXCEPTABILY 'IN CHARACTER SCALE' WITH EACH OTHER BUT TO BE 'IN CHARACTER SCALE' WITH OTHER M.P.s, M.P. GRIMLOCK NEEDS TO BE MUCH LARGER! WHHHHHAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

OTHER M.P./ALTS ARE MORE THAN EXCEPTABILY 'IN CHARACTER SCALE' WITH EACH OTHER BUT TO BE 'IN CHARACTER SCALE' WITH OTHER M.P.s, M.P. GRIMLOCK NEEDS TO BE MUCH LARGER! WHHHHHAAAAAAA!!!!!!! Hmmm. I'd argue that point. Tyrannosaurii are not quite as long as F-15's. Whilst I'll grant you the Rex is 4 and a bit meters tall at the hip it doesn't quite clear the height of the -15's tailfins, and the latter is considerably wider. On that basis I'd have said that there wouldn't have been that much in it between an F-15 robot and a Tyrannosarian one. But that is just the way it works out in my, slightly wonky, head. :-) I actually quite like the proportions on the original Grimlock - he is bigger and bulkier than the car-robots, enough so that he is actually roughly in scale with them, without being so unwieldily large that he looks odd next to them. (It helps that his early appearances in the UK comic keep him pretty much in scale with his toy and cemented the comparison in my impressionable young mind I guess). Karl

Listen, Ian. Can I call you Ian? Listen.
Get yourself some WSTs, the whole lot. All of them. Set them out on the carpet. Then get yourself a Masterpiece Grimlock. Take him out the box, transform him into dinosaur mode and put him next to the WSTs.
You'll notice not even Optimus Prime will be as tall as Grimlock's toes. Grab Grimlock by the base of the tail, pick him up and then smash him down on all your Decepticon WSTs. Make a Grooonk noise as well.
It'll be cathartic for you. At long last you'll have a Grimlock that towers over other Transformers.
Then do you know what you should do? Shut the fuck up about Grimlock's size. Like, forever. ;D

(If I'd spent a bazillion dollars on a complete WST collection, aint no ways I'd be smashing 'em up wi' a miss-sized Dinobot Masterpiece!)
Oh, lonely am I! Am I the only mother-hubber that thinks Grimlock should be the biggestestest? My dummy 'tis; thrown from my parambulator! You know it's true: Within any line, in terms of the 'character', Grimlock should be a good head and shoulders taller than Optimus and Megatron (who are the same height). It fits! When Grimlock is squaring up to Optimus, it's more of a big deal for Optimus. When Megatron out-fights Grimlock, all the live long day for him, 'cos Grimlock is larger (and stronger). It's not about real-life scale either. If that were the case, the Seekers-(oh crap, gunna get it for that one) Strike Planes would be the largest/toughest of all. It's all about 'Character Scale'. And yes I realise I've just totally made that phrase up. Barf barf!
I also don't know what cathartic means. So that showed you Thompson! *blows raspberry*
(hmm, not a word from Phil, have I finally beaten my Grimlock's-Size-Nemesis? Have I finally crushed him under by muddy boot? Has the Thompson-Device now taken over that unenviable position? (I feel like saying "stay tuned" or something!))

I reckon that The Carpenters could have taken either of them (and any of you are old enough to get that joke then congratulations, you likely fall into the upper age bracket of Hub-denziens). Karl

Ok a modification of Grahams suggestion get all the WST even the KO's even the really bad KO's. They cover a good section of G1 and there are lots of them. Once you have them all go and get the WST Dinorobots and thrill as you take Grimlock from his plastic and cardboard tomb. Thats right he towers over all other TFs while remaining close enough that even your hyperactive sense of size will not cause you to rage. Better still if you have Armada Unicron you can reenact the Dinobots daring assault.

Best Legend - G2 Megatron, although Hound and Jazz are both very cool as well.
Best Robot Hero - My overall favourite is Shockwave, but for stuff released in 2008 it has to be Galvatron.
Best Activator - Didn't buy any, not my kind of thing.
Best Deluxe - Sideswipe, with Silverstreak a close second.
Best Voyager - Although I haven't got it yet, Animated Megatron looks pretty good. Not a big fan of the Animated style overall though.
Best Ultra - Universe Onslaught
Best Larger Toy - As before, not fussed much on Animated stuff. Still, if I had to choose one I'd pick Leader Class Megatron.
Best Reissue - Encore Metroplex
Best Exclusive - SDCC Nemesis Prime
Worst Toy - On looks alone (how shallow am I?!), Animated Swoop.
