Many of us possess a 2-inch-thick Japanese TF manga anthology from some years back that goes from 1984 to 1991.
How comprehensive is this, does anyone know?
The Masterforce and Victory sections look fairly sizeable and span the entire series - all the important events can be seen illustrated. And the Zone comic strip looks very much like the Zone cartoon episode.
But very little appears to happen in the Battlestars comic strip. And I know that Battlestars never had a cartoon series made.
What made me curious was the bits in 'The Complete Ark' which talk about the plot of Battlestars - the False Convoy incident, Megatron merging with Dark Nova, etc. Has anyone seen the stories in which these events take place? Are there reams of Japanese Return of Convoy / Battlestars comics out there that the west has never seen?
Does anyone on the Hub know anything about this stuff?

My curiosity has been satiated.
The omission of those story pages from the manga anthology book is no great loss.
I guess that was the end of the pre-BW TF story in Japan... unless anyone knows of any Operation Combination or Japanese G2 stories.
As far as creativity and characterisation goes, it's kindest to consider the saga concluded with Victory, I feel. (I would say Masterforce, but compared to Zone and Battlestars, Victory is high storytelling, so I'm feeling well-disposed towards it today.)

I prefer to think of it as "untapped potential"

My curiosity has been satiated. I guess that was the end of the pre-BW TF story in Japan... unless anyone knows of any Operation Combination or Japanese G2 stories. Operation Combination had some illustrated text pages - less of a story and more of a plot outline with delusions of grandeur. O'm not sure whether they were run in TV Magazine or if it is packin stuff from the catalogues. G2 had single page comics as pack-ins with most of the toys, but I don't think that there was any external media for that. The early ones made up a continous story but the last three or so become a little bit more standalone. Operation Combination, I think, makes nodding acknowledgement of what has gone before, whilst the G2 stuff rather lives in its own little bubble as far as I can tell. Karl
