Classics Megatron looks better in the Japanese colours IMO, although the red stripes on the shoulders detract from him slightly. I'll definitely be after him.

On the website Tformers.com there are pics of the new Japanese version of Classics Astrotrain. Darn work PC wont let me link it for some reason (prob 'cos I'm doing it wrong), but he looks very very nice. His colours are a dark grey, like the version of his G1 self, rather than the light grey almost white of the Hasbro version. Interesting. Check it out.

Seem to remember that Astrotrain's original colours were a sort of off-white and blue scheme, with the Japanese version being more greyish.
The Japanese Classics one seems to me more like the grey recolour they did of the reissue Astrotrain than he is the original version.

Yes the reissue was definately grey. Back in the day, in a product cat, there was a pic of Astrotrain in grey with a sword and arms extended out further at the elbow. That was a looooong time ago though. I think he looks better in grey. whereas Japan Classics Megatron's chrome is putting me off him, Astro is looking pretty darn good.

Some nice pictures of the forthcoming Japanese Classics line over on Fan2FanI am almost tempted to get shot of my UK-released Classics and replace them with the Japanese ones. I especially like the new colours of Optimus, Bumblebee and Starscream (a lot closer to the original schemes). Megatron I can take or leave. Grimlock is a lot nicer looking, especially with the chrome paint, but I am not too enamoured by the mould.

I'll be replacing the Starscream with the Japanese version, and would do the same with the Megatron if I had a UK/US one. Tempted by the Grimlock, but it's not really different enough.

Only just had a chance to have a look at these pictures. The Megatron looks quite nice in silver, not sure it looks nice enough for me buy the same toy all over again but if they had been around at the same time I might have had to consider the choice quite carefully.
I actually prefer the US/Euro Starscream colour scheme. I think it works better to have more red on the wings to go along with the red on the lower-forward fuselage. Besides, I already have a reissue Starscream in that colour scheme. For me the Japanese release is actually a less interesting colour scheme.

Aw man I think that Megatron looks a zillion-billion-quadtrillion times better than our version! Oh yes! Want want want want! How easy will they be to get hold of do you think?

I imagine tfsource, BBTS and hldelay will get them in. And there's ebay. So you should be able to get them easily enough, budget permitting.

I can't see much difference on Grimlock at all. I like the others especially Megatron in his non NERF gun colours.

Nerf Gun! Mint!
Still bugs me that Grimlock is only delux and not voyager.

Now I'm wondering whether I should get the Hasbro Universe Classics or wait to see if TomyTakara decide to release them in better* colourschemes.
*Depending on if the new colours are better or not.

Is it me, or are the chrome bits on Japan Classics Megatron looking a bit, I dunno, knockoff?

Japanese Classics exclusives See this here. eHobby International Tokyo Toy Show 2008 get Crystal Convoy, a transparent version of Optimus Prime. Hobby Toy Market/Ganbo Store get Thundercracker and Skywarp. Slight colour variations to the previously released versions, but a more affordable Thundercracker compared to ebay prices for the Botcon 07 version.

If recent japanese store convention exclusives are any indication I dont expect these to be cheap. I'll be surprised, happy, but very surprised if it will come in at less than $50 delivered. Wonderfest Arcee cost me a bit over that. So yeah it should be cheaper than the botcon one but not much. I'll probably bring the botcon one down to the same price.
I really want the clear Convoy for some reason, suppoe it will go nice with clear Mirage.

Yeah, they're listed at ¥3000, so about $30 straight from the shop already.
It might even push up the price of Thrust and Dirge from the Botcon set as people try to complete their jet set.

So far not so much. TFW has been fairly funny. All the people who already have one are quite happy about it. Then some nutter who clearly hasnt read the thread posts telling people to stop whining.
Apparently its all still Fun Publications fault though.
Andy
After looking at a comparison of the two versions Im torn. I prefer the new blue colour but everything else I prefer the Botcon one.
