Shame people cant respect other people wishes and not distribute it beyond the club forums. Thats not getting at you Jaymz the thing is out there no point pretending otherwise.I shouldnt be surprised though.
Sunstreaker does look nice but I'm looking forward to the Sideswipe version myself. And Prowl and the inevitable repaints.

A bit of a Hot Shot vibe as a car, I reckon. Robot has something of an Alternators-light thing going on. I agree, Andy, there was a reason the pictures were put on the Club Forums. But such is the nature of the internet. What befuddles me is that somebody has paid for the privilege of seeing pictures such as that and then has given away that privilege. Odd. (Though I couldn't actually find the pictures on the club forums when I looked, so thanks to whoever it was.  ) |

On that subject, the Club has sent out this email to all members:
"This is going out to all members. Thanks for your support and help.
We hope you all enjoyed the sneak peak picture of Sunstreaker we posted in the Members only section of the Club site. With Issue 19 arriving in mailboxes soon we do want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that it is against club policy to scan, or in any way duplicate, images from the Transformers Collectors' Club Magazine. So please, out of respect for both the Club and your fellow Club members, we must again reiterate that images from the magazine may NOT be scanned and/or posted online in any capacity. Doing so could mean forfeiture of you Club membership and all privileges associated with it.
Thank you for your understanding and as always your support!"
It's interesting that they don't point out that such behaviour is also illegal, breaking copyright laws. (I don't think I've broken any laws in copying the text, having attributed it to the author. Gulp.)

I imagine they avoided going in heavy handed so as not to appear draconian. There's always the backswing against IP holders by folks when they start protecting their copyrights. The internet generation does have a problem grasping basic copyright law, either that or their sense of entitlement is warped.

Andy Many fans (of various things) do tend to demonstrate a sense of entitlement that befuddles me. Case in point was on the IDW boards recently which had a thread consisting of 7 pages of rants/complaints about which comics were coming out in April (which continued even after an editor explained the publishing schedule for that month and pointed out an additional title in March). Very strange. As for the TF club thingy. Well, these pictures are always going to be leaked later on anyway, but the copyright holder of course has to be seen to defend their copyright. I'm not in the club so have no problem with folk who have paid for it getting images, news, etc before the rest of the TF fans lurking on the net. I am patient. I can wait. -Ralph |

A I'm not upset personally, but Pete specifically asked no members distribute the image. The club go to the trouble to get exclusive images for those of us who have paid and all they ask is not to copy it. Its just disrespectful. Someone in the club had to deliberately do this and odds are its one of the number who spend all there time bashing it on one of the big boards and they did it just for spite. Onslaught was on the cover of the last issue and that was presented in advance. Everyone could see and distribute that, this time it was an effort to give us a small bonus, It would have been made freely available very soon or else photographed at a toy fair somewhere. B, Its not a club exclusive its going to be released at retail across the world, this was just a sneak peek. C What incentive is there to join a club for exclusive images that are available elsewhere within minutes. There's already a fair number of reasons to join. Currently the Seacons and Nightbeat for me.  Andy |

Personally I am surprised that folk have leaked this stuff so fast. If I had paid to become a member of something where one of the things I was paying for was for advance information with a certain degree of exclusivity, I would want to go out of my way to preserve that exclusivity if I could. Instead folk seem to have leapt to do something which devalues what they have actually spent their hard-earned cash on. It just seems odd to me. But there you go.
As far as Sunstreaker... It's ok I guess, doesn't do a huge amount for me but perhaps it will grow on me. Does look odd that they've decided to stick parts of the vehicle engine on the roof though. Not sure about that aspect of it.

if i could afford to i would join (the exclusive stories/comics) would be incentive for me,
however ... overall * i really feel the TFclub splits the fandom in 2
+ those who can afford it
+ those who can't
with this division, it seems as if those of us who cant be in the club are being discriminated against. (just my personal opinion)

Truthfully I dont know how worthwhile the club is for £40-45 a year. Each year Ive been a member Ive gone to Botcon so Ive only paid the extra cost of being an international member as the botcon discount is fairly large. A £7-9 energon toy isnt that much of a must have for me, though its growing on me and I think the final combined form will be reasonably impressive. Comic is.... well you can tell what most of this board think of it. I'm much less picky and still struggle to make sense of it but if you do want to read it, its released as trades through comic shops so even that isnt a massive reason to join. That only leaves the clubs forum which is the only other board I spend any time on. Its small enough that its easy to keep track of and has yet to have anything like the flaming posts of TFW etc. And occasionally we get a bit of news early
Club toy exclusives should be good and we're hoping for an extra set this year as they are a year behind the release schedule. Airrazor was very good. Course since you pay extra being a member is only giving you the opportunity to buy.
Really its is as you say a matter of opinion as to its worth, but as to splitting the fandom, well I think we do a good enough job of that ourselves, between board rivalries, truck not monkey rubbish and all the rest a club with just over 1000 members hardly seems likely to cause much new grief.

(just my personal opinion) Well, that's really just the free market economy at work: an individual that can afford something will buy it and personally enjoy the benefits; an individual that can't afford it won't enjoy the benefit. If you want to call that discrimination, then you would also have to say Tesco is discriminating by giving food to people that pay for it and not giving food to people who don't. Personally, I'm a member mostly for the club toys (I ordered Airrazor this week, woohoo!); in theory it's also for the magazine, but I've not actually got around to reading most of them yet.  Plus, the included advertising is useful for me as a businessman. I really should spend more time on the forums and take advantage of the shop more. |

I'm with Andy and Nigel on this. The club would only be eliteist if not everyone could join. As it is, anyone who wants to join, can join. Those who do should receive the perks as they have paid the money for them, but they should also respect the rules. As pointed out above, these pictures will eventually be released for everyone to see, but it's only fair that those who have paid for the privelege get to see them first.
As for those who can afford it and those who can't being discrimination, I think Nigel's Tesco analogy sums it up nicely.

I have yet to see any pictures of the new Classics 2.0 toys as I am not a member of the Collector's Club. They don't offer anything I would be interested in, so I have not yet been inclined to join. Plus it's quite expensive for the non-US types.
Having said that, I don't see any problems whatsoever in the club offering exclusive content to its members, whether it's sneak previews or exclusive toys/comics/whatever. I suppose it's like paying different tariffs for theatre tickets; the more you pay the more you get to see.
I am not sure where copyright lies with regards to product photography, though I am sure it's quite sensitive when a product has not yet been released. Any Tom, Richard or Harold could photograph said product and claim the copyright of the composition of the image as their own. Also, should any one want to review the toy (when it's released) or an issue of the Collector's Club Magazine then it would be perfectly reasonable and legal to reproduce a sample of its contents to go with the review. Same goes for the IDW comics as well. Obviously so long as one doesn't reproduce the entire thing, of course!
