Not an option. I'll be wearing the team charity shirt. In...five months.

5K is probably the best place to start, no sense throwing oneself right in at the deep end with a full marathon or anything. (It has been a long time since I did any running, and a 5K was the longest thing I did).
More power to you for signing up to do it. I have only one piece of advice - learn to warm up properly before a run of that length and do it. I didn't and my leg muscles paid for it in the days afterwards, benefit from my error.

Good on you Ralph. I shall sponsor you appropriately. What race is it?
A few years ago I 'trained' for a run and was able to do 5k with few worries after three months of 3 hours training a week with a month to rest up before the race. Shame the race was 10km and I was dying by the end of it.

That's an awesome idea, Ralph! Good luck! Try to beat my time- 27 minutes. A long-legged chap like yourself should have no bother I have to be up in 4 hours for my flight back to Saudi. There's a "winter enrichment fun run" in 2 weeks time. I fancy it, but not after a month of very little exercise and certainly not in 30* heat! -Nick

Someone either at work or on the train appears to have very generously given me there cold.... I was up at 2am this morning with a lovely hacking cough. Managed to catch a further couple of hours sleep later on this morning for which I will be significantly grateful by the time I shamble home at seven this evening.
I suspect my working day is going to be primarily the story of work interspersed with cough linctus and strepsils for the rest of the week.

Good on you Ralph. I shall sponsor you appropriately. What race is it? I forget the name. It's a big series of marathons being run in May. I shall try and get the URL. I'll be running for the charity I work for, Streetwork (homeless support). -Ralph

Opened up saving account, put some funds in it and set up a payment plan. It's good to start getting that part of my life under control again (see week 1 thread). -Ralph ...on checking my account at lunchtime I noted that the balance had been higher than it should be. I went to the bank to make an enquiry. Not only had the deposit not been made into the savings account, but the account itself had not been opened and no they weren't going to do it for me. I asked why no-one had bothered to phone me and was told they had no number for me which is blatant bollocks as I have previously been required to provide it. No wonder the RBS was just fined millions for fucking up customer complaints. I was so angry I had to make myself leave before I lost the plot. -Ralph

Not only had the deposit not been made into the savings account, but the account itself had not been opened and no they weren't going to do it for me. Good grief. Now that an impressive level of idiocy by the bank there, that is for sure. Definitely time to take thy business elsewhere. Feeling better today than I expected after last nights adventure in cold-land. Planning to dose myself up with cough linctus and throat sweets this evening before I go to bed, hopefully this will lead to a more restful night. A short day at work tomorrow, should be out of the office just around 5pm. Aiming to get some essential shopping done on the way home so that I don't have to go out urgently for anything at the weekend. Looking forward to a nice quiet weekend with some DVD's, books, Audio drama and comics. Karl

Nothing puts the shitters up them like that. Andy

This afternoon finds me in the loft of joy. I've moved the wooden rack of shelving into the centre of the room hoping to be able to get at the space behing it to board it out. There's already some wood there but it looks a little flimsy for putting comic boxes on.

It's amazing what happens in a bank when you escalate your complaint to branch manager level.
Brain fried. Managed to get a Friday and Monday off work after understanding chat with supervisor so next weekend will be 4 days long. Huzzah.
Couch piloting with pizza, pepsi and the superb Silver Surfer cartoon.

My long, long working week has finally come to an end. I am looking forward to the alarm not going off at 6am for the next couple of days, and actually seeing my house in proper daylight for a while.
I think this evening I shall vegetate on the couch with a martial arts movie and couple of sandwiches made with nice cheese and onion rolls.

It reminds us to train our senses to be alert, and to make our kung-fu a natural extension of our being.

Time to pack a bag to go see my folks. Not seen them since October, which is actually the longest gap in contact we've had since I've been on the planet.
