I have been mostly sleeping today. Seems my body is catching up on all the lost sleep of late. Soon I will be stronger...faster....more ALIVE than ever before!

Retrieve him in the TARDIS, quickly!
Hi, Sportsfans! May your week ahead go well. I've just finished my weeks work! Yeay! Worked all weekend though, and working next weekend, so, actually that's crap.
But mind I not! Mrs Shockers is getting fatter by the day it seems! Piglet's obsessed with if the new baby can hear her or not! And legends Prowl stands firm! Dwarfed as he is my Galactus! They're becoming firm friends.

4 days off work have done me well. This was actually the first annual leave I have been able to take off while working since 2007 without the worry of 'the job is temp so what's the point of taking time off'or 'the job has impossible targets so taking a day off literally brings the chop closer' or 'every day is a day off because I am unemployed'. Jings.
It really is so nice to know I can take some time off when I need it without worrying. Even though I did very little today (had a long lie in bed, food shopping, picking up mail, a brief walk along the canal) it's actually been very enjoyable. It's been so long since I've been able to do 'normal' everyday things without background worry. It's a good feeling.

At the moment it is good that we have a thread which gives me the week number, because I'm not sure I would know where I was at the moment. Having been struck down with some hideous bug last week I am only just beginning to surface. On Thursday night I thought it was a cold, but by Friday afternoon I had been sent home from work, failed to keep down my lunch and to go with my streaming nose and hacking cough I had a temperature of 38.4 celsius and was barely able to form coherent sentences. Cue a weekend spent drifting in and out of a vague daze as a result of doses of Benylin and paracetomol coupled with very limited and careful eating.
The combination produces some fascinating side-effects - on Saturday morning it was all about the aural hallucinations, and I have also discovered that if you are dosed up with enough paracetomol and cough medicine not only does Mobile Suit Gundam Seed become somewhere near watchable (the half-tripping brain seems to decide that it'll just sort of sit and watch the pretty coloured mecha and the flashing explosions) but that Primeval starts making perfect sense, apparently if the brain is tranked down sufficiently poorly animated Cretaceous Era dinosaurs running around an empty shopping mall seems a perfectly normal, everyday occurence. Both of these impressions fade commensurately as body temperature and strength of medication declines, and the strength required to cause these effects is sufficient that I am in no hurry to replicate the experiment.
The medication seems to be doing its stuff though - today I have been able to lie on the sofa without being wrapped up firmly in my duvet and, haven't been coughing anywhere near as much and can actually almost breath through my nose. I am hoping to move myself back onto normal food tomorrow because I think I will lose the will to live if I stare at one more Minestrone Cup a Soup. If that works I will hopefully be fit to go back to work on Wednesday or Thursday.
Why is it that one only gets ill when one actually has plans that one is looking forward to?

Haha, Primeval season 4 eh, Karl? No idea. I was in random semi-delirous channel surf mode at the time. I only really know it was Primeval because it had dinosaurs and one of the wreckage of S Club in it. I don't think that combination occurs anywhere else. Karl

Liz loves Primeval. I'm not so keen but pleased it is there and that ITV are trying.
Been to ASDA and bought Legends for Ken. Retaped LNB to satelite dish arm. Listened to an episode of Doctor Who
and realised I'll be £83 a month better of from April due to the Personal allowances for tax going up by a grand.

I am starting to think I am on the mend. I have had breakfast as well as lunch so far today (instead of bowl of cereal at half-one so I do actually get some nutrition into me) and I think I am going to experiment with having something more substantial than soup for dinner this evening. I am still coughing though, so although I am definitely on the mend I am not sure how close I am to proper functionality.
It has been nice to reduce the strength of the benylin dose a bit mind you, I feel a bit more grounded today not feel quite so much like a helium balloon.

Greetings from KSA, peeps! It's been anarchy here the last couple of weeks. Remember how I was out here for nearly four months and it rained (briefly) once? Well it's made up for it since my return. It's absolutely pissed down three times in the last two weeks, and Jeddah (the nearest city) isn't doing well. They've suffered severe flooding and the infrastructure just isn't set up to cope. Officially six people have died but according to a tweet from a doctor at the IMC (the largest hospital in Jeddah) it's more like six hundred. People have been trapped at work because their ground floors are flooded and, perhaps not surprisingly for a desert (but odd for a coastal city), no-one seems to have any boats to go rescue them. It's been a bit rough on campus but we haven't had any casualties. We've a dude sleeping on our couch because the ceiling fell in in his bedroom and living room. The only other Scots guy I know on campus is in a new house because his ceiling came in too. I've passed word around that those afflicted can store their stuff in our place to protect it from mould (which grows helluva fast in the heat) but it seems like the worst is over. The actual university buildings seem to have survived unscathed with a little help from some sandbags, although apparently our umpty-bazillion dollar state-of-the-art supercomputer got soaked and is now being dried out very, very carefully. To say that rain is sporadic in Saudi is a major understatement. It sometimes doesn't rain in specific areas for decades. Three major downpours in a month is unheard of. Still, widespread corruption and an "eh, good enough" attitude in the construction industry has left the country woefully unprepared. Still, could be worse. Lebanon's government is crumbling and there's widespread rioting in Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt and, as of this morning, Yemen. It's not a good time to be living in the middle east, boys. EDIT: images are unsurprisingly hard to find, but there's a shot of the problems in Jeddah on the second picture in this BBC gallery-Nick

Owch, sounds like you are definitely suffering from the wrath of the weather over there Nick. Glad that your immediate area is ok though! I now have the mental image of a small army of sysops crawling around inside a computer gingerly wafting hairdryers back and forth across the components... Lebanon's government is crumbling and there's widespread rioting in Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt and, as of this morning, Yemen. It's not a good time to be living in the middle east, boys. In Lebanon's case that seems to be a periodic occurence in modern history, but I take your point on the other cases. Not the best of times certainly. For my part I have completed my second day back at work after the space plague. Unfortunately one of my colleagues has just gone off today with something that sounds remarkably similar to what I had. She has my sympathies. I seem to have had a half productive and half diabolical couple of days. I figure if I can keep the 50% average over the course of tomorrow I will be doing ok.. Karl

Today was one of those 'should have stayed in bed' days in which the entire world was apparently conspiring to irritate me. Thankfully, some Whodios this evening are taking the heat off and then I remembered my 'to open' pile of toys in the cupboard and all was right with the world again.

Tonight Phil started to review Windcharger and then lost it when his laptop died. I'm about back to where I was using the desktop but the Laptop is increasingly looking like an ex-computer. All I did was plug a USB Keyboard in. I'm not worried about data loss - most of my files are on the desktop and I use Dropbox for those regularly passed between them like reviews, spending spreadsheet and the blog. But I do have to look after J tmw morning for 5 hours now without a computer.

Friday off work as I am in on Saturday morning.
Two new WWE strips drawn and shopping done. Will scan and letter this evening while relaxing. Have been annoyed by random door to door sales people for Talk Talk today. 2 in as many hours.
