........ just not in a caravan in April with no bath.
So I'll be popping back later in the week and leaving the other two there. Liz tells me she can cope so I'm believing her.

Countdown to holiday begins now in earnest. Also, in a surprsing move, I have requested my birthday and day after off later in the year. I don't usually bother but the urge struck me.
In other news, 'Pathways to Work*' officially shut down last week**. I got wind of this a while ago, having worked on it for a while. I'm glad I got out when I did because I'd be working on something far less suited to my morality by now. Feels like a different life, to be honest. Hard to believe I used to do that kind of thing.

I always have my birthday off, and Mrs Shockers's and the kid's. Even if we just hang out, 'Tis nice.
Hello Sportsfans!!!
Decorating continues at an advanced pace. Gotta get the messy stuff done before Wriggler arrives! I just gotta!
Been painting the down stairs loo, so I am without my display area at the mo, which is hard to cope with. Damn hard.
Be safe out there, Cyber-chumbs!

Right, time to start getting my body in gear for the 5K on May 21st. Thought I'd start with a mild jog just above walking speed round the block. Ten agonising minutes later I seriously thought I was going to pass out. I am somewhat more out of shape than I realised. I especially enjoyed the feeling of the beer belly bouncing up and down.
It begins again tomorrow.

I sometimes take my birthday off, sometimes I don't. I didn't last year as it was around AA time so I couldn't secure the holiday. It really depends on how things work out in any given year.
Good luck with the preparations for the run Ralph. It is a process and you will get there in time. You may well surprise yourself in due course.
I could probably do with shedding a little bit of mass myself - I appear to have put on a little more weight that I am entirely comfortable with over the weekend. I shall have to do it by dietary changes however - my knee no longer takes kindly to running any significant distances regularly. (I've got a half-decent burst speed but I my rated cruising speed is considerably lower).
Karl (I strongly suspect that the media didn't even know that Pathway's to Work existed, let alone that it has ceased to do so).

The sink at work gave me an electric shock every time I used it today. No-one else got electric shocks, though they could hear my ones. Then just before I went home the coatstand also decided to electrocute me.
No idea how I've been building up static charges today. Maybe I'm turning into the Insecticon Shrapnel.
If it happens again I shall experiement with different clothes / shoes / computer equipment to try to narrow down the source of the problem.

Another ten minutes of pain. You may think trying for 10 mins is bollocks but considering I'm going from 0 minutes of jogging a day let's just see how it goes. I think I shall aim to get a little further along the canal each day. My current distance is ludicrously short.
Booze is knocked on the head until the 5K though. That much is obvious.

A gradual but steady build up is the best way to go. Don't try to rush and do too much to start with and you will likely find that you can steadily do that little bit more over time. Well done on taking on the challenge of the 5K too.
I thought about entering the race briefly but my knee told me that it will do walking happily but it draws the line at anything that involves anything more than a sustained fast/silly walk, so I have nothing but respect for the fact that you are taking it on.
I have got my return journey from my mothers booked - so both legs of my upcoming holiday transportation have now been arranged. Decided to go by train instead of flying on the way back (as the BA Cabin crew have had a strike ballot and I don't fancy taking any chances of being stranded at Heathrow or something) but I managed to get a decent deal on the train tickets so I shall be travelling up from London to Edinburgh in first class (large seats and free coffee to accompany my five hours of reading time) for slightly less than it is costing me to fly down to Cardiff. The Train Ticket Roulette doesn't always work out, but I do like when it does.

Well done.
I'm back. Wasn't the best situated caravan for me what with being down a slightly muddy hill and then up 2 flights of steps with no hand rail, no bath and no bed that I fitted into. However Jonathan and Liz are still enjoying themselves even though I'm feeling a bit of a failure for abadoning them in Devon. But as Liz said, we do things differently to other people.
Interestingly the train, covering the middle third of my rail journey was headed to Scotland, pausing in Edinburh before arriving in Dundee. I boarded at Exeter St David's, having ridden up from Exmouth on the branch line, and road as far as Bristol Templemeads. I then rode from Templemeads back to Swindon enjoying succesive free trials of the Entertainment carriage to view the route map all the way back to Swindon.

Well done Ralph.
As Karl says building up steadily is the way to go, also vary your routes a little as well. Doing the same route can make it very tough mentally as opposed to just being tough physically.

I then road from Templemeads back to Swindon Taken out of context, it would be hard to discern from this whether you went by road, rode on the train, or rowed back in a boat. What a wonderful language we have. Martin

Odd being here with no-one else last night, I can probably count on two hands the number of times it's happened since we've been married and on one finger since Jonathan came home from hospital.
Today has a plan: The mattress has been turned and I haved bathed so we're off out in a bit: Asda (Rumble Check), Morrisons (Shopping and Energon Jellys for Swincon) washing the bed clothes, lunch out, TRU and putting the bins out.
Liz hasn't had such a good night: Loud music woke J at one. Then the caravan's smoke alarm helpfully started to tell her it needed new batteries leading to distraught child. They got back off about 4. She has refused my offer to return and help.

This morning I think I'm finally over the worst of whatever struck me on Sunday. But I've only managed to keep in my stomach for the usual amount of time a sum total of 3 sandwiches since some time on Saturday. Over that time I've lost somewhere between 4 and 6lbs.
Will be very happy to return to regularly scheduled events later today or tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that the holiday hasn't worked out so well Phil.
I had a pretty rotten start to the day. One of those days when you seriously think about asking for a mulligan on the day. Fortunately things picked up a little as the day went on and I started to feel that I had more of a handle on things.
Then I chanced on the fact that Chohei Kambayashi's novel Good Luck,Yukikaze is currently being translated for an English language release, something I have been hoping for since I read his first novel a couple of years ago, which news perked me up a bit (sometimes it is the little things that cheer one). I have also cheered meself up by adding the Battle of the Planets theme to my MP3 player - an ideal piece of music to replace 'Rise' as I walk into the office in the morning (a headphone in one ear vanishing into the pocket of a dark coat making me look like an FBI agent as drawn by a five year old with a black crayon.....)

I've got a colleague who used to walk her previous ferret (and even brought her into work one day). Her current ferrets are apparently less co-operative and thus are not allowed out of the home for walkies.
