I thank you. A little better tonight, just off for a bath and then one more episode of the War Games.
I've been feeling quite weak the last few days, difficulty getting out of bed and very cold, none of which are good signs.

10th anniversary means Tin. I receive a copy of Tinpot Hobo through the door today. 1st means paper. George and I went to a comics convention that day. Genius.

The farm cow was staring intently at a wall today. A vast source of back issue comics has been discovered. I shall investigate properly tomorrow. Not been able to do much today, been feeling a bit unwell.

I appear to have been in Sleep Mode today - I nearly nodded off at work a couple of times in the course of the day. I feel fine now after a little nap on the train whilst on my way home.
Did discover at lunchtime that a replacement hose for my vaccum cleaner is likely to be next to impossible to source and even if I can is likely to cost pretty much the price of the whole cleaner anyway. That's right - the cleaner, hose etc is worth X, which is also the value of the hose on its own sans cleaner and etc..... That doesn't entirely make sense to me.

I fly out in 9 hours, bound for Iowa via Amsterdam and Minneapolis. 15 hours each way. Fun. In between, two months of hopefully productive research into biofuel byproducts. Also purchasing toys. The chaps in A1 Comics recommended a monstrous trade called "Bone" for travelling. I read a bit of it during my many bus journeys to finish everything today. It's pretty fantastic. EDIT: Just did some productive research of my own- apparently the nearest Toys'r'us is a manky place 30 miles away, but there's both a Target and a Wal-mart on "South Duff Avenue" reachable by bus from the campus. Well that's Sunday sorted then -Nick

Greetings from Iowa!
I have officially been awake for 25 hours! Woo! Apologies if my sentence structure goes a bit awry as this post goes on. Still no word from the sub-let people so I'm going to have to go round academic buildings searching for people who are, in turn, searching for flatmates. Meanwhile the hotel I'm currently staying in is equivalent to one week's rent per day. It's the only hotel in town. So... should get on it, really.

I seem to have caugt a heavy cold/bug type thing directly after the chickenpox. After feeling a bitoff the past couple of days it has hit me with a vengeance. Pounding headaches, high temperature. Hooray.
This old body of mine is wearing a bit thin.

When I was in Florida last year I found that the copious greenery did not affect my hay fever. Marc (a fellow sufferer) suggested that this was bcause the grass was a different species from the one my body had learned to frantically overreact to back in the UK. No such luck in Iowa. *disgusting nose-blowing sound*
Meanwhile, it's hotter than buggering Jeddah! This is what I was trying to get away from when I signed up to this internship!

I have managed to secure lodgings in one of the student halls and do not have to kip on a park bench tonight, which is spiffy. The place is in a pretty good location, slightly over half an hour's walk from a Target, a Wal-mart and a K-mart. I took some photos of the Marvel Universe and Green Lantern stuff just in case the Scots crew fancy any of it. In Wal-mart I was excited to find three full pegs of Universe figures, only to discover they exactly matched the case I had sent from BBTS three months ago. In a moment of Bogatan-like luck/skill I reached in under them and pulled out what turned out to be a Sergeant Kup. So now I have Kup. There's another Wal-mart around here somewhere. I may try to find it after Mass tomorrow.
There's a Catholic church literally next door to the hall of residence, which works out nicely. It's a lovely place with a fantastic group doing the singing and music, led by a wee woman with arms like a wrestler and the voice of a proper Gospel singer like in movies. There was a nun there celebrating 50 years in the service and there was a big meal laid on after Mass. It was brilliant- I got the sense that these two-hundred-odd people are a real community who are really into this business. I think I'm going to enjoy it here.
What I didn't enjoy was my second trip to Target for more supplies. I was down there this morning on a toy run which retrieved a solitary deluxe figure, along with slightly more pressing stuff like shampoo, shaving foam and antihistamines. Then I was presented with my room which had no bedding or toilet paper. There is a bus service but they're about as frequently sighted as unicorns so I just walked back. That two and a half mile stretch seems a lot further when you're carrying a pillow, a set of sheets and pillow cases, a loaf of bread, a large jar of peanut butter, a box of tissues, six rolls of toilet paper and a large Lego kit in three awkwardly shaped carrier bags. I had to stop for a rest twice.
Right. Time to make the bed up. Man, it must be nearly dawn in the UK right now. Either I've gotten over my jetlag double-quick or I'm about ten seconds away from a compldbdzgb[#pl;l,

Good to hear that you have managed to find accommodation Nick. Always better than being arrested for vagrancy.... :-)
I've spent this afternoon organising myself accommodation and transport for an airshow down in England in a few weeks time. I have learned an important and salutory lesson in doing so - book ones accommodation earlier than four weeks before the show next year if I want to get into a reasonable cheap hotel. End result is that it is going to cost me about twice what I was hoping for in terms of accommodation, but I will be very comfortable during my stay it would appear.
Now, I need to have a think about getting myself tickets for the East Fortune Airshow later next month, and then think about travel and accommodation for Auto Assembly in due course.... A task for another day methinks.
Did manage to get a nice long walk in this morning, out to check on the ducks and whatnot on the canal. Not sign of the swans, so they were probably off showing off to the tourists, but one of the ducks had an impressive swarm of ducklings in tow as she steamed past me.
Now, off to put my feet up and watch a film whilst my dinner takes care of cooking itself. I do love my slow cooker, it works wonders for saving washing up.

Off to bed shortly. I can't have any more sick days at work, FFS.
Looking at the AA budget to see if it's workable. To be honest, my motivation is low. I'm leaning more towards small fan gatherings/trips round the UK to meet up with folk these days. I certainly have no interest at all in the 'bigger' one planned for 2012/.

If you ever fancy doing the Fairford one Karl we can put you up and there are buses from Swindon Thank you for the kind offer. It is on my list of shows to be done in due course so I may well take you up on that at some point. (Probably not this year as it is a bit too close to the Waddington show for me to be able to get back down for it - but I may take you up on that offer next year or the year after possibly). Karl

Likely going to disappear offline for a few days.
We are having a new boiler put in and the office floor needs ripping up. It's going to be chaotic taking everything out and putting it back in again.
Still, it will look bad before it looks better.
