I've got other things on my mind today. Philip and his broken tooth are going to the dentist.

I've got other things on my mind today. Philip and his broken tooth are going to the dentist. My commisserations, I'm not a fan of dentists either. One of these necessary evils. I am at work this morning, but thanks to my incipient cold not really quite up to speed. I am making reasonable progress, but I hope that nothing comes up requiring my full brain power as I just don't think I have that available today.... Karl

Some wind and rain, but nothing exceptional.

The wind in Edinburgh wasn't really anything out of the ordinary, and the rain was just normal winter rain really. Moving west along the Central Belt was a little different however. At Polmont I could see great drifts of rain being blown sideways by the wind, and when I got off the train at Falkirk I could see why - the wind was at "stops you in your tracks or forces you to tack sideways across your direction of travel" strength. Quite surprisingly the only visible disturbance in my garden was one of my bean tubs having been blown on its side. Easily righted and moved into the lea of the house.
Last time I could see them clearly the trees across the road were waving like jubilee flags though.

HALLOOO SPORTSFANS!!!
Nearly blown away I was this very day! I shuck my fist at the sky in retaliation!
Wriggler is the Chubbiest baby in the entire history of the universe! Still a bit small to be given a right good squeezing of The Fat Bits, but soon, SOON!
I've started a Rota line at work, prev I've been 'Relief'. Not much has changed, but I'm working with a chumb, and it means less nights and better notice of shifts. Only temp 'till March, but so far so good!
Been teaching Piglet a bit of Karate. Or rather trying to. Piglet enjoys integrating her various 'dance' moves into what I'm trying to teach her. Never know, she may yet develop some new style of Dance-Kumite!
Other than that, it's busy busy busy in the land of the Shockprowl's. When I'm not at work I'm looking after the 2nd born or doing DIY or just freakin' cleaning the house! 'Tis ok though, being busy makes you feel ALIVE!!!
Kisses!

Very windy at the moment.
Finished off an article today but otherwise I've not done much so far this week. Still, that was my plan so I'm not complaining.

I have had one of those days where much work is done, but no visible progress exhibited. Intellectually I know that I am nearer the end than the beginning of a job I am doing, but I can't really see the end of it from here so it is hard to really convince myself of this.
Ah well, t'is a four day week anyway so I only have two more days to go. Shame the weather forecast seems to be all about rain for Friday and Saturday. Might constrain what I end up doing come the weekend. Ah well.

Ended up writing a nice long character sheet for a new RPG for the first time in literally years. Feel extremely nerdy.
It is a rather good feeling.

Tomorrow (in between what may be a mad work day) I need to find out what hoops I have to jump through now to extend the lease for six months. Private renting is a pain in the arse.

How is that you can have a day when things go very well at work and you power through a long and repetitive task.... and yet the end result of that task is to make one more concerned about something rather than less. That somehow seems counterintuitive.
Ah well. The consolation is that there is only one day of work left before my four day weekend.

I've been more quiet than usual because I've been struggling with a bit of DIY.
I've varnished furniture before, but this time I somehow let it get away from me.
First coat of satin - looks decent.
Coat of gloss - lovely! The surface of the desk is almost like a mirror.
A day later, more gloss - it's near perfect! How can the surface of a desk be so smooth?
Next morning: Oh, but wait, there's a bit where the satin is peeking through. I'll just touch that up with the paint brush. AAARRRGGGHHH! Didn't wait long enough for it to dry! Now the gloss is rising up everywhere and becoming all globby and making cross-hatch-type patterns! AAARRRGGGHHH!
Try a little bit of sandpapering and more gloss. Didn't work. Worse than ever now.
Scrape everything off. Sandpaper down. Start again.
Satin. Satin. Gloss. Perfect.
Now walk away.
My hands have suffered damage from careless scraping and sandpapering. I shall take a few days to nurse my wounds and NOT TOUCH THE [EXPLETIVE DELETED] DESK while I'm at it.
Though I'll have to put something on it at some point. Maybe after a stiff drink in about a year's time.

Had that with Blaise's shelves I put in the other week. DIY can be pretty addictive although trialling at times.
Biggest challenge coming up soon is putting in a Bathroom cabinet. Drilling through tiles isn't an easy task.

My DIY to date has been mostly limited to painting stuff, though I did change a light switch recently. Set the burglar alarm off twice while figuring out which switches in the fuse box to turn off.

Some movement on the flat issue. Paid the ludicrously high 'yes I want to stay' fee, which would renew the lease until mid-April 2012. I now need a Magic Letter from my employer (even though I've been a tenant for nearly 2 years) but...my manager is off for a few weeks on holiday so that will take a while to get but the letting agency seemed ok with that today so we'll see.
Ugh. In truth I do seek a move (it's difficult to air the flat with very small windows that open, etc) and so I do have to clean up mould and have had to chuck plenty of stuff that got damp-damaged but I'd rather not move mid-Winter if I can avoid it and the place is quiet so on balance this will do for now but it's not a done deal until The Magic Letter is procured. Sigh.

My working week has ended with one of those days where everything just seems to align properly and things just slot neatly into place. It was quite pleasant to have a straightforward day like that for once.
Looking forward to the four day weekend (Monday's public holiday and a random extra day that no-one at work can explain the origin of. Planning a few cinema trips and a couple of other excursions if the weather is good. If, as is more likely, the weather is not so good then the cinema trips will remain and the excursions will be replaced by staying in starting on Kaptain Karl's Third Klearout of the year.

The last day before a 4 day weekend, So much sleep to catch up due to being up for half 5 every morning. Also a house to view as it looks like I will be moving in the next few weeks. Need to prune the collection somewhat to decide what goes in to storage and what gets pride of place as it will be a shared house
