Taking a break from sorting boxes. Knackered. I had miscounted. Some of this stuff has been in fusty boxes for 3 years.

The epic box checking is complete, having taken up most of the day. About 2/3 survived to my surprise despite how it was stored though I was ruthless and did chuck plenty of stuff I have no room for (especially comics, which can be replaced digitally in the future). At some point in November the rest of the stuff I have at the parentals will be ported over. Then begins the sorting once again to cut the overall amount of stuff down to size when everything is now over here. Having just had a clear-out last month the place is bursting at the seems once again! Which I don't like. Old Ralph does not like having piles of stuff the same way Young Ralph did.
By the end of the year, I expect to have rid myself of half of what is left from a lifetime of clutter. I just don't feel the urge to have as much 'stuff' as I used to.

I have reached a stage where I have become more ruthless about what I keep and what I don't keep. Earlier in the year I culled back my Robert B Parker novels from a shelfs worth to three books, purged pretty much all my David Weber (the library here has someone who likes his work on stock selection anyway) and I have regular clearouts these days. Better sometimes to keep less stuff but to have it be stuff you really enjoy than to have stuff for the sake of it. I spent today in physical exercise - deciding that I was not going to be deterred by the grey and threatening clouds I took off to Edinburgh with my lunch in my backpack to ascend Arthur's Seat. The journey (which I did not do by the easiest way) was tough and did remind me that I am no longer what I was in my early twenties (I have lost both ground speed and jumping ability since then...). On the other hand the view from the top, of Edinburgh spread out before me through a layer of cloud and mist was well worth it. Coming down my knee registered its protest by causing me to fall twice - one of them a quite impressive drop and slide that no-one saw, and the other an almost tumble on gravel that saw me kind of ski in a low crouch without quite losing my footing. (Did worry the poor girlfriend of the guy coming up the way on the path - she thought that if I, in my sensible shoes went over, then she in her pumps , might not fare well. I set their minds at ease when I said it was an engineering issue with me and not of the terrain. Picked up some cheap James Bond films courtesy of the HMV sale - OHMSS, The Living Daylights and License to Kill (yes, I am a strong supporter of obscure Bonds, why do you ask?) and then came home to do a bit of reading and sort myself out ahead of Doctor Who (If it hadn't been tipping down with rain I would have done the reading in the garden, but warm rain is bad for books). 3rd weekend in a row* of being unable to sleep due to loud music from neighbours. The speakers are so loud they distort and can be heard 2 streets away. It's the next building (not even my close so no access to a door to tell folk to go fuck themselves) and I can hear it literally more clearly than loud music being played in a pub when I am in it. I can't bear this.

Can't sleep either due to muggy heatwave nights. The little un and wife are managing ok though.
The police paid our neighbours a visit last night possibly due to the load music and... constant partying in the back garden with heavy wafts of 'substance' smoke coming from there. It was a matter of time before someone on our street issued a complaint. That is just an assumption though.

Not really done much today, given the efforts of yesterday.
My long standing finger injury is playing up. A suspected broken finger in the past that was never treated. It's been very sore today. Might make an appointment to see the doctor next week, to see what can be done.
Won the dvd of Shakma! on ebay. Which makes me happy.

The noise continued into the afternoon so I had to go out to get away from it so plan for quiet day in building a TARDIS ruined. Completely knackered. It's finally gone quiet.

Might be worth giving the Community Safety Team at the Council a call Ralph. They deal with noise nuisance issues so they might be able to advise/warn perpetrators/etc. Probably can't hurt in the circumstances.
Today was a clearing out sort of day - a CD-case has been bought and has become the repository of a large number of my lesser-watched DVDs, allowing the cases to be disposed of and some shelf-acreage reclaimed. It was also time to make a start on a clear-out of the toys to winnow things down to a more storeable volume. Ity wasn't like I was going very far in this rain anyway.
Productive, if bitty, day all told.

I daresay they will get many calls from the neighbourhood. Probably from the nursing home too. Tomorrow's weather forecast looks promising so hopefully a jaunt can be had. Off work all week. -Ralph

I haven't had anything longer than the three days I took around AA time since Christmas and I am feeling the lack of a break. Looking forward to the time off, not so sure about the mad running about to get squared away beforehand though. (Or the crazy running about to get caught up when I come back for that matter)> Karl
