Apart from your home or family home, where are your favourite places to be?
Among my top ten would be:
In one of the comfy reading chairs on the fifth floor of Cardiff's main library, at one of the ceiling-to-floor windows looking down on the people going to and fro on the shopping streets below. (When I was in Coventry I had a less good spot to read leaning on a ledge upstairs in a shopping centre, also watching people from above. And there's a Burger King in Cardiff with upstairs window seats overlooking the shopping street which I quite like too. And of course I have a favourite upstairs window seat in my local pub, for reading and food.)
A mostly empty (off-peak) auditorium in Cardiff Cineworld, in an aisle seat with the railings in front to put my feet up on during the movie.
My local nature reserve, particularly the woodland part of it, which is great for stepping out of the human world into wildlife surroundings for a bit without actually having to leave the city (or indeed my neighbourhood). When I was at university this need was filled by a bench by the lake on campus.
The National Museum Cardiff would also be in my top ten as it is a very familiar haunt and many of the staff know me.
I feel totally relaxed and at my ease in all the above places. I'd be interested to hear what spots hit the spot for fellow TMUKers.
Edit: Thinking about it, it looks like I feel at my most relaxed when I am watching the world go, by unseen and undisturbed. But on the other hand I am quite happy speaking in front of hundreds of people, and find that quite enjoyable too. But in an adrenaline-rush sort of way rather than an unwinding way.
