All my Christmas presents are wrapped, which is a relief, but I've got got a couple of Birthday ones to do yet. Not venturing out in the rain to Seek paper, though...

[Copy-pasted from guild forums for speed]
So the monitor on my remaining laptop died. Just before I was due to take it with me while I visit friends/family over Xmas. I'm currently typing this post on said laptop's broken keyboard with its keys that you have to hit really hard multiple times for it to register anything, while a 2nd monitor is hooked up so I can actually see what the fuck I'm doing, hoping the 8-year-old machine doesn't die completely before I hit "post". Basically, regardless of whether or not friends/family's home(s) have working internet or not I'm not gonna be around until I can get a new comp.
On the up side, I know what to get myself for Xmas I guess. On the downside, my income isn't awesome right now (employers really know how to rip off people like me, fresh out of university and desperate for scraps of employment wherever we can get them in the current shitty market) and the last thing I wanted was to have to spend money on a new portable computer whilst I was busy saving up for a proper desktop tower for gaming. Which was gonna set me back ~850 GBP factoring in that lovely 20% VAT already. Now I'm gonna need another few hundred for a new laptop on top of that because I've lost my only remaining portable device. Which just also happens to be my last functional computer.
ARGH.
Worst timing ever.
Happy holidays & new year if I don't see y'all before 2012, and I hope to brb soon. D:

Well, that was one way to start off the week - still awake at 2am this morning, fell asleep at some point between then and the latter morning, which led to me waking up at 07:35. Unfortunately I was roughly twenty minutes walk from the railway station where I needed to be to catch an 08:10 train into work. Hence a mad dash out of the house after draining a half cup of coffee - no shave, no breakfast etc. Then it was a dash from work to the Scottish Government building at Victoria Quay for a morning meeting (very swish looking building inside - very glass and concrete outside), followed by a dash back to the office to get an afternoons work in.
Managed to actually get home at a more sensible hour this evening though, which is nice. A little bit more sleep this evening would be good if it all possible though....

Decided to nip out to the local City Farm this lunchtime - dropped in on the ducks (those of whom who are living in the special cage appeared to be conspiring in the corner, as the huddled closer and dropped their voices as I approached). I went around to see the goat but he simply looked at me from the doorway of his house as if to say "You think I'm going out there in the cold? I'm staying right here, and you should go home too if you had any sense".
I am currently the proud owner of half of a new chair. We had two "Directors Chairs" as office supply catalogues call them in our reception area but they were being thrown out as staff had asked for them to be replaced as they didn't find them comfortable. So I figured I would chance my arm and asked our Corporate Services Manager if I could take one of them off their hands. She didn't have a problem with that - so I dismantled the chair and carried the chair section home on the train this evening. This got some funny looks, but it is not my fault if folk haven't heard of reuse. Now all I need to do is bring the pedastal bit back home tomorrow and reassemble them (better get my sonic screwdriver sorted out) and I will have a much more comfortable chair for sitting at my computer, to replace the rapidly disintegrating current one.

Today is a somewhat mixed day. To kick off we had a good night (7 hours for me, 12 for Jonathan) so that's a good start. But I had to empty the freezer out too find the things i'd been ordered to defrost. Then my internet banking didn't work. Then my cashcard wouldn't work. The fraud team at Nat West said that was because HLJ had put a "£1 Reservation" on my account which had thrown the flag. Since HLJ have shown no sign of actually getting in EZ Collection I had ordered (and cancelled yesterday) I was forced to say that yes, that could possibly be fraudulent. But it meant I couldn't get the cash while I was out which rather wasted the trip and got me all worried about my account.
Things have started to improve again: Cyberverse Shockwave & Ratchet action sets are here with no CUTA action, and I found the missing part for my Lego X-wing and finished it. And bought some cheap lego online
Now I must sleep.

Following this morning's burnt coissant incident I have dropped tonight's pizza on the kitchen floor, getting it out the oven, and burning my fingers in the process. I am not a happy bunny.

I have spent the majority of today pruning files at work. On the one hand this is very boring stuff. On the other it means that on my last two days of work for this year I am unlikely to need to use my brain for anything.
Had my team Christmas lunch today as well, and very nice it was. Got a Christmas present from my boss - a Police Box Money Box. (Did I twirl it around in my hand as if it was flying through a Space-Time vortex.....? Possibly, possibly).
Only one more day of work left this year. The end of my working year cannot come soon enough.

3 work days till Christmas. TRU has been anarchy. I am so shattered. Feel like there's cotton wool inside my brain. -Nick I feel your pain. Having done TRU once and Asda for the last few year, I don't know which is worse in the week before Christmas. The look when you dont have what they want can be terrifying. 6 hours spent lifting 20kg trays of giant gammon joints in roughly zero degree temperatures interspersed with mad rushes of customers as early as 6am, by lunch it was hard to move and this year Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday so thats going to be a fun shift of work. On the plus side I posted off the last of my pre Christmas ebay sales yesterday, its been an almost full time job for a few weeks but has been well worth it.
