Pain here, bad night.
We got a sparky coming next week to tidy up after the floor was done downstairs and stick some new sockets in. As part of that he needs to have the floorboards up in the main bedroom so lots of stuff is having to be moved.

Well I'm stumped. Apollo 11? A Spinal Tap reference? 11 Doctors?
It is a beautiful day and I'm going to lunch. I may be some time.

Previous Week 11s have included:
2011 Ides of March 2010 Murder Spree 2009 Nanonbots the Musical
I shan't say what 2008's was, but merely pass comment and say NO!

I decided that it was past time I went to see Ghost Rider 2, realising that it was not long for cinemas by nature. Tragically, it seems it is indeed past time as no cinemas in Glasgow are still showing it! Boo.
Have made contact with a highly recommended driving instructor. Back in the saddle!

My post from earlier disappeared? . Strange. Got a pretty darn cool parcel from the US today with some great figure acquisitions . If I've not mentioned before, I'm currently using a walking stick. Knees are bad again.

For some reason I was absolutely rung-out at work this morning. I wasn't particularly short of sleep but for some reason I was just zonked. Fortunately I have the discretion to move parts of my workload around, so I banished a lot of the thinky parts to tomorrow and did some less intellectually taxing things. Relatively quiet night tonight I think, recharge the batteries for tomorrow.

Work has been fairly dreadful of late and will continue to be so for quite a while. I currently find myself on a countdown to the weekend every week.

It does not sound like folk are having a good time of it workwise. I shall keep my digits crossed for folks.
I have given up hope of attracting birds to the feeders that I have put out in the back garden. I had hoped that creating an island of feeding opportunities amongst the slabbed and concreted desert around here might lead them to alight and break their journeys. It doesn't look like it is going to happen unfortunately.

Good grief if you say tickets will be available from 9am then make sure a) your website updates then and b) your phone line booking is open then.

I wish I could say work was going better for me; I too am on a countdown each week (this week I have Friday off as I have to use up some days before the end of the financial year, so that's something).
We got told last week that our pay remains frozen; as the union pointed out in a follow-up email that means compared to 4 years ago we've effectively been given a 12% pay cut. And it's hardly like we're paid to industry standard here as it is. Sadly just about the only way out which results in a reasonably paid job for my qualifications in London is to go work for a bank. And I'll never do that.

I've scratched my wacom tablet. Arghh! Let the nib wear down and boom! Tiny gouge in the middle. It's so annoying. Need to get myself a protective cover.
Bad me.

I realise I've been somewhat of a lurker lately. Just haven't really had anything to say about stuff, though of course I wish well to everyone who's having a hard time. Things are going well at work (pay freeze and unfilled posts in team notwithstanding). Very busy, but work very stimulating and rewarding. The only cloud on the horizon is whether or not organisation B (to whom I've been seconded for the last five years) will give me a permanent contract when organisation A (of which I am technically an employee) gets turned upside-down in a year's time. Reason would suggest they'd have to, as I'm doing about three people's jobs at the mo and there is no-one else waiting or able to do them. But reason doesn't always prevail in the public sector.
Anyway, been using up leave at the end of my leave year. Took three days (Friday to Tuesday) and spent today responding to a sizeable e-mail backlog. Doing the same again this coming Friday to Tuesday, only this time I'll stay in Cardiff rather than with my folks in Bristol, and will be able to well and truly chill out. Nothing I had planned to see in the cinema, so may give 'The Woman in Black' a go. May also see 'The Muppets' for a second time.
Looking forward to end of March / beginning of April - a new set of Goon Show CDs comes out, plus Transformers UK Classics Volume 2, which will be amazing. I have simple tastes!

In other news I am generally not a pleasant person to be around at the moment. My team should find out soon whether we have jobs after June. Other teams have already learned their fate. It's fucking horrible.

It was when my firm was in redundancy city that I made the decision to bale out over the side on ill health grounds to safeguard my income (My Doctor had suggested I stop sometime before). It's a horrible place to be when people are bing shown the door all round you and you don't know how long it will be before they come for you.

Redundancies are a terrible time. It makes for a horrible atmosphere. My place went through it a couple of times in recent years and it was never pleasant.
Been an interesting week for me, one way and another what with some things going on in my family preying on my mind. On the bright side the weekend approaches, an opportunity to put my feet up, finish my re-read of "Cyteen" and possibly do some pottering in the kitchen.

My father left Barrs soft drinks when 3 redundancy positions were presented- and 51 of the 54 drivers applied for them. That should tell you what kind of a shower Barrs was to work for in the late 90s. Still, there were more jobs available back then. Now... my sympathy to all those waiting for the axeman to pass them by.

On that note there is a work leaving do this evening. I'm really not in the mood at all and also rather wiped out after a very tiring day but alas honour demands I have the courtesy to show up but I think it will be one coke and sloping off after an hour methinks. Ugh.

Me, I'm going to microwave a tin of winter vegetable broth that needs eating up, pour myself a cream liqueur and settle doen to read MTMTE #3. Thought I might go to the cinema today, then realised I'd be wiser to go on Bargain Tuesday. Can still catch the films I planned to see ('The Woman in Black' and 'The Muppets') at the same times for half the price. Instead, today I did some reading in a pub and in the central library. Decided to read a bit about graphology and was impressed by the number of ways the book accurately inferred my personality from the characteristics of my handwriting. Clever book. And... singing man in Sainsbury's. In my local big Sainsbury's my visits have a couple of times now coincided with the visits of another customer who looks like Morgan Freeman and sings non-stop. Loudly, and very well. His voice is like that of Paul Robeson. He just pauses to cheerily tell the cashier he doesn't need a bag and to thank him for his change. Every Sainsbury's should have such a man. Martin

And we're back. It was clearly a "let's get pished" evening and coupled with the inability to hear what people were saying due to the level of noise in the pub meant I had to bail anyway. Yes, I do from time to time end up a bit hammered (hello from last Saturday) while out but my days of specifically going out to get drunk are long behind me.
