Could be clever editing, but... gizmodo.com/5817719/michael-bay-just-re+using-from-the-island-for-transformers-3Interesting comment on Youtube- "The reason that this was done was because Gabriella Cedillo, an extra, was injured on set (while filming this exact scene). Bay needed the scene but they shut down filming in Indiana and Chicago after this happened, out of respect for Gabriella and her family...and they didn't use the footage from filming the scene (the special effects were so huge that it was a one-time deal). Knowing that, I would say that it was a pretty smart way to put that scene together."

Wow, there are lots of unnecessarily vitriolic attacks in the comments!
Personally, I find it an impressive feat of editing and visual effects. It's like Forrest Gump on steroids!

If it's acceptable to re-use the Wilhelm scream, why not an SFX shot?

I don't see a problem with this at all, especially given the circumstances

Seems reasonable given the situation. I mean, it is even the same director reusing his work, and no-one seems to to have a problem when other films do it - like GI Joe with the Black Hawk Down material for example.
